Martin Prado

MLB: Atlanta 10, Washington 2

Atlanta -- Martin Prado returned from the disabled list Tuesday with three hits and in a pair of RBI and the Atlanta Braves pounded Washington 10-2.

Prado, activated just before the game, made his first start of the season at third base, replacing the injured Chipper Jones, and responded by going 3-for-5, driving in runs in the sixth and seventh innings and scoring three times for the first-place Braves.

Diory Hernandez homered and Melky Cabrera and Matt Diaz each drove in a pair of runs as Atlanta improved its home record to a major league-best 43-16.

Mike Minor (1-0) collected his first major league win in his second career start, holding the Nats to two runs on five hits in six innings, walking two and striking out five.

Broken finger puts Braves' Prado on DL

Atlanta -- The Atlanta Braves put slugging second baseman Martin Prado on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right pinky finger, the team said Monday.

Prado broke the finger in Friday's win against Cincinnati while sliding head-first into home plate on Jason Heyward's 10th-inning double.

After holding him out of the lineup Saturday and Sunday, the Braves made the decision to put Prado on the DL after it was determined he wouldn't be strong enough to grip a bat for at least another week.

Prado is batting .315 with 13 homers and 43 runs batted in this season. He started the All-Star Game as an injury replacement for Philadelphia's Chase Utley.

He will be eligible to return to action Aug. 16.

MLB: Atlanta 8, Florida 3

Ross drove in a run with a double in the fourth and then scored on a single by Prado to give the Braves a 3-1 lead.

Prado had another RBI single in the sixth and Ross drew a bases-loaded walk during a three-run eighth that broke open the game.

New York rallied to tie it at 2-2 after four innings, but Atlanta quickly regained the lead in the fifth.

Nate McLouth and Martin Prado singled off Nelson Figueroa (2-6) and McCann came through with a two-out homer to right. Consecutive singles by Yunel Escobar, Adam LaRoche and Matt Diaz accounted for another run in the fourth.
