Munich, Germany -- Top-seeded Marin Cilic came from behind Thursday in earning a quarterfinal berth in the $515,000 BMW Open tennis tournament in Germany.
Cilic dropped a first-set tie-breaker before advancing with a 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 7-5 victory over Simon Greul. Cilic lost his serve only once -- that coming in the third set -- but had a pair of breaks in each of the last two sets in getting the win.
Sixth-seeded Nicolas Almagro also needed three sets to get out of the second round Thursday. He piled up 17 aces in his 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) win over Kevin Anderson. Almagro will go against Cilic in Friday's quarterfinals.

Monte Carlo, Monaco -- No. 4-seeded Marin Cilic rallied for a three-set victory Tuesday in second-round action of the $3 million Monte Carlo Rolex Masters in Monaco.
Cilic dropped a first-set tie-breaker before pulling through for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-4 win over Igor Andreev in a match that took nearly 3 hours. Cilic landed just 50 percent of his first serves and dropped serve four times but piled up eight breaks in winning at the clay-court event.
Seeded players won Tuesday's other three second-round matches. Fifth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga slipped by Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (7-5), 7-5; No. 6-seeded Fernando Verdasco routed Julien Benneteau 6-2, 6-1; and 10th-seeded Tomas Berdych breezed past Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-0 in 57 minutes.

Varazdin, Croatia -- Croatians Marin Cilic and Ivo Karlovic claimed a straight-set victory Saturday that locked up the first-round Davis Cup series with Ecuador.
Cilic and Karlovic had 51 winners en route to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, 7-5 win over Ecuadorian brothers Giovanni and Nicolas Lapentti.
The Lapenttis also both lost singles matches Friday and trail 3-0 in the best-of-five series. Croatia moves to the Davis Cup quarterfinals in July against either Serbia of the United States. Serbia has a 2-1 lead over the United States in that series.
Cilic and Karlovic had 21 unforced errors that they countered with a 51 winners. They had three breaks of serve of the Ecuadorians and lost just five points on serve in the third set.

Zagreb, Croatia -- Marin Cilic captured his fifth ATP singles championship Sunday, winning the Zagreb Indoors in Croatia for the second straight year.
Cilic, who was the event's top seed, won in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 over Michael Berrer of Germany.
Cilic has been in seven ATP finals. He defeated countryman Mario Ancic in the Zagreb Indoors title match last year.
Berrer was played in a tour final for the first time.

Zagreb, Croatia -- Defending champ Marin Cilic banged out a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win over Austria's Jurgen Melzer Saturday in a semifinal match at the Zagreb Indoors Tennis Tournament.
The 6-foot-6 Cilic, the tournament's top seed, thrilled his countryman in Zagreb, Croatia, by improving to 14-1 this season, and avenging a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Melzer at the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy final in Vienna last October.
"Melzer was a really tough opponent," Cilic admitted. "Winning the first set was a big relief, and the second set was much, much better from my side also."
Cilic tries to win this event a second straight year Sunday against unseeded Michael Berrer of Germany, a 7-6 (10-8), 7-5 winner over fellow German Philipp Petzschner in Saturday's other semifinal.

Zagreb, Croatia -- Defending champion Marin Cilic beat fellow Croat Ivo Karlovic, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 Friday in a quarterfinal match at the Zagreb (Croatia) Indoors Tennis Tournament.
Cilic, the event's top seed, won the match by overcoming 24 service aces by the 6-foot-10 Karlovic.
His semifinal opponent Saturday, third-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria, rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 decision against Ukrainian Illya Marchenko.
Elsewhere, Germany's Michael Berrer ousted fourth-seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-4, 6-3, while Germany's Philipp Petzschner had to rally before a 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, 6-2 victory against Slovakian Lukas Lacko.
Berrer and Petzschner meet in the other semifinal, and Sunday's champion will collect a $95,500 winner's check.

Zagreb, Croatia -- No. 1-seeded Croat Marin Cilic and the other three tournament top seeds swept to straight-set wins Wednesday at the Zagreb Indoors tournament in Croatia.
Cilic and second-seeded Ivan Ljubicic, another Croat, each won first-round matches. Third-seeded Austrian Jurgen Melzer and No. 4-seeded Serb Viktor Troicki claimed second-round wins.
Cilic, coming off a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open and playing in his hometown, blitzed Czech Jan Hajek 6-2, 6-2 in 56 minutes. He saved the lone break point he faced and converted all four times he had Hajek at break point.
Ljubicic got past Frenchman Arnaud Clement 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 behind 11 aces.

Melbourne -- Marin Cilic, surviving yet another marathon match, claimed a five-set victory Sunday over No. 4-seeded Juan Martin del Potro at the Australian Open.
Cilic took a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 win from del Potro in a fourth-round match that took more than 4 1/2 hours. Cilic, the No. 14 seed, was coming off a pair of matches that took about 3 1/2 hours each. Even his straight-set, first-round win was a relatively long 2:32.
Cilic managed four service breaks, with two key in deciding the match. De Potro was serving at 5-4 when Cilic evened the third set and used another to take a 4-2 lead in the final set.

Chennai -- Marin Cilic used a pair of wins in tiebreakers for a straight-set win Sunday and successful defense of his Chennai Open title in ATP play in India.
Cilic, from Croatia, nipped Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) in the title match. It was the first time in five career meetings that Cilic defeated Wawrinka.
Each player had his serve broken twice in the match -- once in each set.
Cilic's first-set break came with Wawrinka serving for the set and allowed him to be in position to dominate the tiebreaker.
Cilic was also cruising in the second tiebreak, building a 5-1 lead, before Wawrinka tightened things up. But Cilic put the match away by taking consecutive points.

Chennai -- Defending champion Marin Cilic beat Janko Tipsarevic 6-1, 6-3, Saturday in one semifinal of the Chennai Open tennis tournament in Chennai, India.
The Croat, the tournament's second seed, gave up just eight points and converted 2-of-6 break-point opportunities in the 84-minute match. That earned him a chance to successfully defend his 2009 title Sunday against third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland.
Cilic is 3-2 in career finals.
Wawrinka won a much more difficult match, beating Israel's Dudi Sela 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
"Obviously you can tell by the score that it was a really tough match," Wawrinka said. "I expected it to be difficult."
Sunday's Cilic-Wawrinka winner takes home a $68,450 champion's check.

Chennai, India -- Defending champion Marin Cilic and third-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka were among Friday's quarterfinal winners at the Chennai Open in Chennai, India.
Friday's matches were delayed by rain in humid Chennai.
Cilic, the tournament's second seed, beat Colombia's Santiago Giraldo 7-6 (7-3), 6-1, while Wawrinka, from Lausanne, Switzerland, topped German southpaw Michael Berrer 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
Cilic also won the Zagreb Indoors tournament in 2009 over fellow Croatian Mario Ancic.
Elsewhere, fourth-seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia beat Dutchman Thiemo De Bakker 7-5, 7-5, and fifth-seeded Dudi Sela of Israel was a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 winner over Slovakia's Lukas Lacko.
Saturday's semifinal match-ups are Cilic-Tipsarevic and Wawrinka-Sela.

Basel, Switzerland -- World No. 1 Roger Federer, gunning for a fourth straight title in his hometown, led Wednesday's winners at the Swiss Indoors tournament in Basel, Switzerland.
Federer, the top seed, was an easy 6-3, 6-3 second-round winner over unseeded Andreas Seppi of Italy.
"I had to save break points today, which I didn't have to do in the first round, so I thought it was a bit tougher," Federer, who was once a ball boy in Basel, said in reference to a 6-3, 6-4 opening-round victory against Belgium's Olivier Rochus.
Federer is playing for the first time since losing 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro at the U.S. Open final in New York in September.
