Mich. city defies state pot law, votes ban

Wyoming, Mich. -- Marijuana advocates say they want to kick the entire city council of a Michigan city out of office for banning the drug state law permits for medicinal use.

The city council of Wyoming, Mich., reaffirmed a November vote Monday giving the ban a second and final reading that makes medical marijuana illegal within city limits, the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Press reported
Tuesday.

The vote goes against a 2008 statewide vote approving medical marijuana.

Voters in 27 of Wyoming's precincts supported that marijuana proposal.

John Ter Beek, a lawyer who has sued the city, plans a campaign to recall all seven elected officials and says he is recruiting volunteers to circulate recall petitions.

Willie Nelson arrested for pot possession

Sierra Blanca, Texas -- Country music star Willie Nelson has been released from Hudspeth County Jail in Texas after he was charged with possession of 6 ounces of marijuana.

TMZ said Nelson, 77, was arrested Friday morning when his tour bus was stopped at a Border Patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca.

He was booked into the county lockup on a $2,500 bond, which he quickly posted and was released later in the day, the celebrity news Web site said.

Man wants his pot back from the sheriff

Seattle -- A man allegedly caught walking into a Seattle courthouse with a small amount of marijuana is demanding it back.

John Worthington of Renton, Wash., representing himself, is not denying possession or even invoking his medical marijuana card, Seattlepi.com reported.

Citing a state Board of Pharmacy decision that pot has medicinal value, he asserted Tuesday that it was an "herbal substance," not a drug, and therefore does not fall under laws regulating illegal narcotics.

Worthington was passing through security on his way to the King County Courthouse's law library Oct. 14 when he allegedly placed an old baggy of pot tucked in his jacket in a security tray, the report said.

California won't legalize pot

Sacramento -- California voters defeated Proposition 19, a measure that would have legalized and taxed marijuana, early returns indicated.

If approved, the ballot initiative would have allowed state residents 21 and older to grow and own marijuana subject to taxation. It would have made California the first U.S. state to legalize marijuana.

The Sacramento Bee said as of early Wednesday with 22 percent of precincts reporting, 56.1 percent of voters said no to Proposition 19, while 43.9 percent supported it.

Police find lost bong; suspect says thanks

Bradenton, Fla. -- A Florida man, arrested after admitting to police there was marijuana in his car trunk, thanked them for finding his bong, lost for seven years, officers say.

A Manatee County Sheriff's Office report says a car driven by Mark Fiasco that came up on a computer check as being previously involved in a drug case was pulled over Friday around midnight, the Bradenton (Fla.) Herald reported.

Fiasco allegedly provided an address not listed on his driver's license and said no when asked if there were any drugs in the car.

Deputies searched the car and found about 1 ounce of marijuana in the trunk and a bong inside a plastic shopping bag, the Herald said Saturday.

Police: Man smoked all his pot during stop

Forest Park, Ill. -- Police in Illinois said a man admitted to smoking the last of his marijuana in his car during a traffic stop so officers wouldn't be able to find any drugs.

River Forest police said Giovanni Lyles-Dawson was pulled over at 6:09 p.m. Sept. 9 for allegedly driving with expired plates, and officers detected a strong odor of marijuana when they approached the vehicle, the Forest Park (Ill.) Forest Leaves reported Wednesday. Police said they asked Lyles-Dawson to exit the car, but he instead locked his door and rolled up his window.

Drug-buy text mistakenly sent to cops

Helena, Mont. -- Sending a text message in search of a marijuana purchase almost landed two Helena, Mont., teens in trouble when it accidentally went to a deputy sheriff.`

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Deputy Leo Dutton thought someone was playing a joke on him when he got a text message saying "Hey Dawg, do you have a $20 I can buy right now?" the Helena Independent Record reported.

After realizing the message wasn't a joke, Dutton called the Missouri River Drug Task Force, and a detective pretending to be the dealer arranged to meet the sender at a north-end business.
