Marek Zidlicky

NHL: Minnesota 6, Vancouver 2

St.Paul, Minn. -- A goal and two assists by Marek Zidlicky helped the Minnesota Wild breeze by the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 Tuesday.

Zidlicky scored one of Minnesota's three power play goals and backed up a solid 25-save performance in goal by Niklas Backstrom.

Matt Cullen and Cal Clutterbuck had the other two power-play goals for the Wild in a rough-and-tumble contest. Vancouver's Rick Rypien was tossed at 13:38 of the second period after racking up two roughing penalties and a game misconduct. The fuming Rypien scuffled briefly with a Wild fan after being banished to the locker room.

Wild sign Zidlicky to 3-year extension

St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Marek Zidlicky to a three-year contract extension, the team said Tuesday.

Minnesota General Manager Chuck Fletcher said the new deal commits the 33-year-old blueliner to the Wild through the 2012-13 season.

Zidlicky competed for the Czech Republic at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, racking up five assists.

"Marek logs a large number of minutes every night and also creates a lot of offense for our team," Fletcher said. "We are excited he has agreed to continue to play with the Wild."

NHL: Minnesota 3, Dallas 2

St. Paul, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild notched its third win in four games Saturday, edging the Dallas Stars 3-2.

Defenseman Marek Zidlicky had a goal and an assist for the Wild, while Cal Clutterbuck and Mikko Koivu scored goals to back the 19-save goaltending of Niklas Backstrom in the win.

The Stars, meanwhile, dropped their fourth game in five. Dallas was led by Loui Eriksson, who scored twice in the loss.

The Wild set the tone 9:46 into the game while shorthanded when Clutterbuck scored, followed seven minutes later by Koivu's goal.

Eriksson's second marker of the second period tied it for Dallas, but Zidlicky's tally put the Wild on top to stay with 1:48 to go in the period.

NHL: Nashville 4, Minnesota 3

St. Paul, Minn. -- Jerred Smithson's shorthanded goal put Nashville in front midway through the third period Wednesday and the Predators held on to defeat Minnesota 4-3.

Nashville won for the fourth time in 11 games this year despite blowing a two-goal lead. The Predators have captured two out of three after losing six in a row.

Pekka Rinne got the win in relief by stopping all 12 shots he saw over the final 37 minutes. Dan Ellis was replaced in the second period after giving up three goals in a span of less than 2 minutes.

Those goals by Brent Burns, Cal Clutterbuck and Owen Nolan gave Minnesota a 3-2 lead but Nashville tied it 6:44 into the second on Mike Santorelli's first goal of the season.
