Manny Parra

MLB: Milwaukee 8, Pittsburgh 6

Milwaukee, Aug. 29: Prince Fielder highlighted a five-run first inning with a three-run homer Friday, and Milwaukee held on to defeat Pittsburgh 8-6.

The Brewers snapped a three-game losing streak, but needed a big early lead and a 12-hit attack to do it.

Milwaukee got solo homers from Jason Bourgeois in the second and Ryan Braun in the fourth while building an 8-4 advantage through five innings.

The home run for Bourgeois was his first in the major leagues and came in his 13th game.

Manny Parra (9-10), who had lost his two previous decisions after winning five out of six, claimed the victory despite giving up six runs on 10 hits over six innings.

MLB: Milwaukee 6, Los Angeles Dodgers 5

Los Angeles, Aug. 4: Manny Parra went eight-plus innings Monday and the Milwaukee Brewers survived a ninth-inning comeback bid to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5.

Ryan Braun had four hits, including a three-run home run, and Casey McGehee had two hits and scored two runs for the Brewers, who won their second straight game and their fourth out of six.

Parra (6-8) gave up four runs on eight hits with one walk and four strikeouts before being replaced by Trevor Hoffman with two on and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth.

The Dodgers scored three times before Hoffman picked up his 24th save by getting Manny Ramirez to fly out with the bases loaded to end the game.

MLB: Milwaukee 7, Washington 5

Milwaukee, July 30: Casey McGehee put Milwaukee in front with a two-run homer in the sixth Wednesday and the Brewers ended a three-game skid by downing Washington 8-3.

The Nationals failed in their bid to win a season-best five games in a row.

Milwaukee climbed back to within a game of .500 and, despite being in fourth place in the National League Central, stayed within 4 1/2 games of first.

Washington starter Garrett Mock was still on the mound in the sixth, trying to protect a 5-3 lead. Mock, however, gave up a lead-off double to Corey Hart and a single to Mike Cameron that moved Hart to third.

Tyler Clippard (1-1) came on to relieve Mock and got J.J. Hardy to ground into a double play that brought home Hart from third.
