Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Libby Smith shot a 3-under 69 Thursday that gave her a two-shot lead after two rounds of the LPGA Tour's Qualifying Tournament.
Smith played the LPGA Internatonal's Legends course, one of two being used for the event. The top 20 players at the end of the five-day tournament will earn fully exempt status on the circuit for 2011.
Smith, a seven-year tour veteran, was a co-leader after the opening round and completed 36 holes at 8-under 136.
Pornanong Phatlum shot a 6-under 66 on the Champions course and moved into a tie for second at 138 with Jimin Jeong.

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Reilley Rankin, Libby Smith and Aree Song held a share of the lead Wednesday after the first of five rounds of the LPGA Tour Qualifying School.
All three fired rounds of 5-under-par 67 on the Legends and Champions courses of PGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Rankin and Song played the Legends course while Smith was on the Champions circuit.
The Top 20 finishers of the qualifying tourney will be rewarded with LPGA Tour cards for 2011.
Knotted in fourth place after 18 holes were Belen Mozo and Pernilla Lindberg (68). One stroke further back were Jimin Jeong and Ayaka Kaneko.

Orlando -- The LPGA announced Wednesday the organization would eliminate the tour's "female at birth" rule.
By allowing transgender golfers to right to play on the tour, if they otherwise qualify, the LPGA chose not to fight litigation brought against it by a transgender California woman.
Lana Lawless sued both the LPGA Tour and an organization that governs long-driving competitions. Lawless argued her civil rights were being violated by the LPGA bylaws and part of her lawsuit involved an attempt to ban the tour from holding tournaments in California.

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Jiyai Shin once again passed Cristie Kerr and reclaimed the No. 1 position Monday in the world women's golf rankings.
Shin tied for fourth at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship in South Korea and, with Kerr three strokes back and tied for 12th, was able to move to the top spot. Kerr had taken over the No. 1 position from Ai Miyazato last week.
The leading players are still bunched, however, and additional switches are likely as the season winds down. Eight players in the Top 10 changed places this week.
Shin has a rankings point average of 10.86 while Kerr is at 10.64. Suzann Pettersen (10.52) moved into the No. 3 spot and Miyazato (10.50) is fourth.

Daytona Beach, Fla. -- Cristie Kerr returned to the No. 1 spot in the world women's golf rankings, with Jiyai Shin moving up to second and Ai Miyazato dropping to third.
Kerr, who finished eighth at last week's LPGA event in Malaysia, was No. 1 for one week in August before Miyazato took over. She was also ranked on top for three weeks in June and July.
While she's back at No. 1 as of Monday, she owns just a narrow lead for the top spot. Kerr has a ratings point average of 10.88, while Shin is at 10.76 and Miyazato's average is 10.63.
One of those three golfers -- Shin and Miyazato for 10 weeks each and Kerr for five -- has been ranked No. 1 since Lorena Ochoa retired this spring.

Kuala Lumpur-- Jimin Kang had birdies on three of her last four holes Sunday and claimed a come-from-behind victory at the LPGA Malaysia golf tournament.
Kang started the third round three strokes off the lead but had a 6-under-par 65 Sunday and won by a stroke. It was her second LPGA title but first in nearly 5 1/2 years.
She had a 54-hole total of 9-under 204, just ahead of Juli Inkster's 8-under 203. Inkster shot 4-under 67, including an 18th hole bogey, in the final round. Second-round co-leader Maria Hjorth (71 Sunday) tied Mika Miyazato (69), who was a first-round co-leader, for third.

Danville, Calif. -- Beatriz Recari claimed her first career championship Sunday, firing a 2-under-par 70 to win the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge by one stroke.
Recari, a 23-year-old Spaniard, not only won her first LPGA Tour event but also notched her first-ever top-five finish.
Her 14-under 274 edged Gwladys Nocera (70) by a single shot. Nocera had sole
possession of second place at minus-13.
Michele Redman, who was the co-leader after three rounds, stumbled to an even-par 72, falling into a tie for third place with Karine Icher (70) at 12-under 276.
Cristie Kerr (70) and Wendy Ward (72) tied for fifth one shot further back at minus-11.

San Francisco -- Transgender golfer Lana Lawless is suing the Ladies Professional Golf Association for denying her membership.
Lawless, 57, a post-operative transsexual considered to be a woman by her home state of California, filed suit in U.S. District Court in San Francisco against the LPGA this week to contest the organization's requirement that a player be "female at birth," ABC reported Thursday.

Prattville -- Katherine Hull used a clutch birdie on the 17th hole Sunday to edge out Brittany Lincicome for a one-shot victory in the Navistar LPGA Classic.
The birdie allowed the Australian to claim her second career tour victory with a round of 5-under-par 67, ending the tourney at 19-under 269.
Hull, 28, also won the Canadian Open two years ago.
Lincicome, meanwhile, came up a bit short in her bid to collect her first victory since the 2009 Kraft Nabisco event. She made a charge with two late birdies to grab sole possession of second place at minus-18.
Third-round leader Cristie Kerr entered the day with a three-shot lead but stumbled to a 72, finishing in a third-place tie with Na Yeon Choi (69) at 17-under 271.

Rogers -- Morgan Pressel, seeking her first victory in almost two years, shot a 5-under 66 Friday and held the lead after one round of the P&G NW Arkansas Championship.
Pressel played early in the day at the Pinnacle Country Club and suffered just one bogey while coming within a shot of equaling her low round of the year. She shot a 65 in the third round of the Women's British Open, where she finished eighth.
She led by a stroke Friday over Yani Tseng, Gloria Park and Na Yeon Choi.
Michelle Wie, coming off her second LPGA Tour victory at the Women's Canadian Open, shared fifth place at 68 with Suzann Pettersen, Janice Moody, Danielle Downey, Jee Young Lee and Ji Young Oh.
Juli Inkster was among those at 69, tied for 11th.

Winniepeg -- Michelle Wie pulled away from the pack Sunday, cruising to a three-shot victory at the Canadian Women's Open for her second career victory.
Wie, who shared the second-round lead with Jiyai Shin, pulled away with a 2-under-par 70 Sunday to finish three strokes clear of four players.
The 20-year-old Hawaiian star, who turned pro before her 16th birthday, earned her long-awaited first crown came last year at Lorena Ochoa's tournament in Mexico.
Wie secured her second win by making three consecutive birdies on the back nine, capped by a chip-in from off the green at No. 15.

Henderson -- Former LPGA Tour player Erica Blasberg died as the result of a suicide, the Clark County, Nev., Coroner's Office ruled Tuesday.
Blasberg, 25, was found dead in her home May 9. Police indicated she was found with a plastic bag fastened over her head.
The coroner determined the cause of death as suicide due to asphyxia and toxic levels of prescription medication.
The Southern California native was a two-time All-American golfer for the University of Arizona and was in her sixth season on the LPGA Tour.
