'Brooklynized' water subject of lawsuits

Delray Beach, Fla. -- Two Florida restaurants are suing each other over a water filtration process purported to make water taste like it came from New York.

The Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. in Delray Beach says in its lawsuit against Mamma Mia's Trattoria & Brick Oven Pizzeria in Lake Worth the pizza parlor misappropriated its technology to "Brooklynize" its water, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Monday.

The process is said to give water an authentic New York taste and transfer it to bagels and pizza.

Mamma Mia's says the bagel restaurant is illegally claiming to have patented the filtering process.

Fear and rosy reports plagued Tribune deal

Chicago -- The purchase of Tribune Co. in 2007 went forward partly because participants feared backing out would lead to lawsuits, court papers filed in Chicago said.

Court examiner Kenneth Klee's report filed in the company's bankruptcy case said the two-part deal grew increasingly questionable, but went forward, anyway.

As evidence began to mount up that Tribune Co. was in losing advertising revenue, a group headed by real estate mogul Sam Zell pressed forward, taking on $13 billion of debt in the process.

The deal was structured in two parts. By the time the second part of the deal was underway, banks and Zell were increasingly concerned, but neither backed out, The Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

'Professional' litigant plans another suit

New York -- A homeless man in New York, infamous for filing lawsuits when businesses or institutions eject him for his body odor, has a new target, observers say.

Richard Kreimer, 61, who won a $23,000 suit 20 years ago when a New Jersey library kicked him out, says he's going to sue Amtrak in Philadelphia, claiming they had police forcibly eject him from the station there, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Kreimer, who hires lawyers to fight his battles, considers litigation his "profession," the Post reported.

He has filed 18 lawsuits against businesses like drug stores and restaurants and the New Jersey cities of Morristown, Summit, Newark and Woodbury accusing them of violating his civil rights by kicking him out of public places.
