MLB: Chicago Cubs 9, Washington 4

Chicago, Aug. 27: Koyie Hill and Derrek Lee had two-run doubles in a six-run eighth Wednesday that broke open a close game and gave the Chicago Cubs a 9-4 win over Washington.

The Cubs had only a 3-2 lead before sending 10 men to the plate in the eighth.

Chicago won for the third time in nine outings and stayed a distant nine games behind St. Louis for the lead in the National League Central.

Milton Bradley added a homer and drove in three runs for the Cubs, who piled up 13 hits.

Angel Guzman (3-3) got the win with an inning of work in relief of starter Rich Harden.

Washington lost for the seventh time in nine games and dropped its 82nd contest of the season.

MLB: Chicago Cubs 6, Cincinnati 3

Cincinnati, Aug. 4: Tom Gorzelanny gave up one run in 7 1/3 innings Tuesday in his first start since joining the Chicago Cubs last week, for a 6-3 victory over Cincinnati.

Gorzelanny (4-1), recalled from Triple-A Iowa before the game, allowed just three hits in his first start since Sept. 10, 2008. It was his first win as a starter since June 24, 2008.

He also had his first hit and RBI since June 12, 2008. The Cubs won for the fifth time in seven games and remained tied for first in the NL Central with St. Louis.
Kosuke Fukudome and Koyie Hill had two hits and two RBI each. Both Fukudome and Derrek Lee homered in the win.

Loser Johnny Cueto (8-9) allowed five runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
