MLB: Los Angeles Angels 5, Texas 0

Aanaheim, Calif., Oct. 1: Matt Palmer gave up a single to the game's first batter Wednesday and Los Angeles Angels' pitchers did not allow another hit in blanking Texas 5-0.

Julio Borbon singled off Palmer to open the contest and was promptly thrown out trying to steal second. The Rangers went on to lose for the 12th time in 17 games in a late-season slump that took them out of playoff contention.

The Western Division-champion Angels won their fourth in a row and are set to meet Boston in the first round of the playoffs next week.

Los Angeles took the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Torii Hunter, who came in to score on a base hit by Juan Rivera.

Most of the Los Angeles starters were replaced in the late innings.

MLB: LA Angels 4, Boston 3

Boston, Sept. 18: Howie Kendrick singled in the go-ahead run in the ninth Friday and the Los Angeles Angels ended Boston's seven-game winning streak by downing the Red Sox 4-3.

Boston had won its 10 previous home contests and took a 3-1 lead through four innings.

The Angels closed within one on an RBI double by Chone Figgins in the fifth, then tied the game in the seventh on a fluke play that also involved Figgins.

Kendrick was on third base when Figgins swung and missed at what appeared to be a third strike thrown by Josh Beckett. The ball sailed past catcher Jason Varitek, however, allowing Figgins to reach first base and Kendrick to come in with the tying run.

MLB: Seattle 3, LA Angels 0

Seattle, Sept. 2: Felix Hernandez and David Aardsma combined to throw a four-hitter Wednesday and carry Seattle to a 3-0 blanking of the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels, who began the night with a 4 1/2-game lead in the American League West, lost for the ninth time in 14 games. Their usually powerful offense has been shut out twice in the past week.

Hernandez (14-5) allowed all four of the Los Angeles hits and struck out six over eight innings. The Angels managed more than one base runner in an inning just once against Hernandez.

Aardsma came on to work a perfect ninth for his 33rd save.

The loss went to Scott Kazmir (8-8), making his first start for the Angels after being obtained in a waiver deal with Tampa Bay.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 8, Tampa Bay 7

Anaheim, Calif. Aug. 11: Vladimir Guerrero hit two solo home runs Monday, including the 400th of his career, to lead the Los Angeles Angels to an 8-7 win over Tampa Bay.

Kendry Morales homered twice and drove in three runs for the Angels, who won for the third time in five games but have lost consecutive series to Texas and the Chicago White Sox.

Kevin Jepsen (4-3) got the win in relief, throwing two scoreless innings. Brian Fuentes earned his 32nd save.

Jason Bartlett had three hits, drove in two runs and scored twice for the Rays, who also got two RBI from Ben Zobrist and a solo homer from Carlos Pena in their second straight loss -- and their third loss in four games.

LA starter Sean O'Sullivan went 4 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on six hits.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 5, LA Angels 4

Chicago, Aug. 5: Scott Podsednik's RBI single with two out in the ninth Tuesday gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Kevin Jepsen (3-3) struck out Carlos Quentin and got Chris Getz on a ground out but Jayson Nix doubled and Podsednik lined a single to center to drive in Nix with the winning run.

Matt Thornton (6-2) got the win after pitching 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief for the White Sox, who won for the fourth time in their last five games.

Gordon Beckham hit a solo homer and finished with two RBI, and Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin each drove in a run for Chicago.

MLB: LA Angels 11, Minnesota 5

Minneapolis, July 31: Erick Aybar's four-pitch walk started a streak of eight straight Los Angeles base runners in the 11th inning Friday, propelling the Angels past Minnesota 11-5.

The powerful Los Angeles offense pounded out 19 hits and rallied the Angels from a 5-2 deficit in the late innings.

Mike Napoli's solo homer in the eighth tied the score at 5-5 and Los Angeles then produced six singles in the 11th -- five of them coming consecutively.

Bobby Keppel (0-1), who had not allowed a run in 11 1/3 innings since being called up from Class AAA, walked Aybar and then gave up a base hit to Gary Matthews and an RBI infield single to Howie Kendrick.

MLB: LA Angels 4, Colorado 3

Anaheim, Calif. June 24: Bobby Abreu's two-run, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning rallied the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 home win over the Colorado Rockies.

Abreu drove a base hit to right field to saddle Ubaldo Martinez (6-7) with the inter-league loss and snap Colorado's nine-game road victory streak.

Martinez, who gave up four runs on seven hits in seven-plus innings, had been solid until the eighth. He walked Jeff Mathis, gave up a bunt single to Erik Aybar and loaded the bases on a fielder's choice by Chone Figgins to set the stage for Abreu.

Kevin Jepsen (2-2) pitched the eighth for the win and Brian Fuentes notched his American League-leading 20th save.

Troy Tulowitzki had two home runs to account for all three Colorado runs.

MLB: LA Dodgers 6, LA Angels 4

Anaheim, Calif. June 21: Andre Ethier hit a key two-run triple Saturday, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers record a 6-4 inter-league win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Ethier's hit gave the Dodgers a 5-2 lead with two outs in the top of the fifth inning.

Russell Martin had three hits -- one a solo homer with one out in the third. Casey Blake had one RBI.

A run scored on Kevin Jepsen's sixth-inning wild pitch and Juan Pierre added two hits for the Dodgers, who have split their last four contests and have won five of seven.

The winning pitcher was starter Jeff Weaver (4-1).

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 9, San Francisco 7

San Francisco, June 16: John Lackey went seven strong innings and knocked in a run with his first MLB hit Monday in the Los Angeles Angels' 9-7 inter-league win over San Francisco

Erick Aybar hit a two-run homer and Robb Quinlan stroked a two-run double in the fourth inning, when the Angels scored seven times to blow the game open. Up by 9-4 in the ninth, LA came very close to blowing the lead when Pablo Sandoval hit his second homer of the night -- a two-out, three-run blast off reliever Kevin Jepsen.

Angels' closer Brian Fuentes came on to get the final out and record his 17th save.

Lackey (2-2) struck out 10, walked no one and allowed just three runs on 10 hits.

His offensive support also featured home runs by Juan Rivera, Bobby Abreu and Sean Rodriguez.
