Atlanta, Sept. 29: Jorge Cantu singled home the winning run Tuesday when the Florida Marlins posted a 5-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
Cameron Maybin hit a two-run homer and Chris Coghlan had three hits and two runs scored for the Marlins.
With four games remaining, the Marlins would need to win all four and have Colorado lose all of its remaining games for Florida to reach the playoffs. The Rockies hosted the Brewers Tuesday night.

Atlanta, Aug. 26: A two-run single by Luis Rodriguez highlighted a six-run sixth inning Wednesday that rallied San Diego to a 12-5 decision over Atlanta.
The Braves took a 3-0 lead into the sixth, but then saw the Padres score their 12 runs over the final four innings. San Diego banged out 18 of the game's 30 hits.
Atlanta slipped out of a second-place tie with Florida in the National League East and fell eight games behind Philadelphia for the division lead.
David Eckstein and Adrian Gonzalez each had three hits and two RBI for the Padres.
Will Venable and Nick Hundley had run-scoring doubles in the big sixth inning.
San Diego went 9-for-21 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 men.

New York, Aug. 20: Kenshin Kawakami won his first game since July 8 with a seven-inning stint Thursday and the Atlanta Braves held on to nip the New York Mets 3-2.
Kawakami (6-9) outpitched Johan Santana, allowing the Braves to keep pace with Colorado in the National League wild-card race. Atlanta trails the Rockies by four games.
In his six previous starts, Kawakami had gone 0-3 with three no-decisions. He limited the Mets to a run on seven hits while striking out five.
Rafael Soriano allowed a two-out single in the ninth before nailing down his 18th save.

San Diego, Aug. 4: Mat Latos pitched seven innings of two-run ball, Will Venable had three hits, one RBI and one run scored and the San Diego Padres beat Atlanta 4-3 Monday.
Latos (3-1), a rookie, limited the Braves to six hits while walking two and striking out three in earning his third straight victory in just four career starts.
Heath Bell pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to get his 27th save.
Kyle Blanks homered and Kevin Kouzmanoff and Oscar Salazar each drove in a run for San Diego, which has won six of its last seven games.
Adam LaRoche homered and Brian McCann drove in a run for Atlanta, which lost its second straight game and its fifth out of seven.

Miami, July 29: Josh Johnson worked six innings and helped his own cause with a three-run homer in the fourth Wednesday, lifting Florida to a 6-3 victory over Atlanta.
Johnson (10-2) allowed three runs on eight hits to record his third straight win.
He homered for the second time this season after hitting none his first four years.
Hanley Ramirez had a triple and homer while driving in two runs, and Dan Uggla added a solo shot for the Marlins, who have won seven of their last eight games.
Kenshin Kawakami (5-8) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits in 4 2/3. Atlanta's runs came on homers -- a solo shot by Casey Kotchman in the fifth and a two-run blast from Garret Anderson in the sixth.

Atlanta, July 18: Johan Santana held the Braves to five hits in seven scoreless innings Saturday, helping the New York Mets beat Atlanta 5-1.
Santana (11-7) threw 115 pitches with two walks and five strikeouts before he was replaced by reliever Pedro Feliciano.
Angel Pagan led New York with three hits and one RBI. Former Brave Jeff Francoeur had two hits and one RBI for the Mets, who have won only six of their last 19 games.
Atlanta's run scored in the eighth on a homer by Chipper Jones, his 10th this season. Casey Kotchman had two of the eight hits for the Braves, who had won six of eight.
Losing pitcher Kenshin Kawakami (5-7) surrendered two runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Chicago, July 8: Kenshin Kawakami gave up a run and four hits in six innings Wednesday, leading Atlanta to a 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Relievers Peter Moylan and Mike Gonzalez hurled one scoreless inning apiece before closer Rafael Soriano earned his 10th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The lone hit by Casey Kotchman was a sixth-inning solo homer.
Martin Prado had two hits and one RBI.
Single runs scored on errors by Jake Fox in the third and Kosuke Fukudome in the ninth, while Nate McLouth had two runs and two hits for the Braves, who won twice in the three-game series.
They played a second straight day without star third baseman third baseman Chipper Jones (right groin).

Washington, July 3: Brooks Conrad hit the first home run of his career Friday, a pinch-hit, three-run blast that helped carry the Atlanta Braves to a 9-8 win over Washington.
Conrad's homer in the seventh inning, which came in his 20th at bat of the season, broke a 5-5 tie and the Braves held on to win their fifth straight game.
Chipper Jones, Yunel Escobar and Matt Diaz all had two RBI for the Braves, who pounded out 14 hits.
Boone Logan (1-0), who worked 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief, got the win. He replaced Kenshin Kawakami, who lasted just 4 1/3 innings while giving up five runs on six hits.

Atlanta, June 24: Nick Swisher and Alex Rodriguez had two RBI Wednesday and Francisco Cervelli hit his first major league homer, boosting the New York Yankees past Atlanta 8-4.
Joba Chamberlain (4-3) gave up two earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for the win and Mariano Rivera struck out the last four batters for his 16th save.
It was the 498th save of Rivera's career and he also batted for the just the second time in his 15 big league seasons. He flew out with the bases loaded in the ninth.
New York halted a three-game losing streak and won its second game in seven contests.

Boston -- Kenshin Kawakami allowed two hits in six innings Friday and was backed up by perfection from the bullpen, pacing Atlanta to an 8-2 inter-league win over Boston.
Kawakami (4-6) had received an average of 1.7 runs worth of support in his previous starts, but the Braves produced 12 hits and Garret Anderson had an RBI in four different at bats.
The Atlanta starter gave up the only two Boston runs, those coming on a sixth-inning homer by Jason Bay.
Peter Moylan, Rafael Soriano and Mike Gonzalez all worked a 1-2-3 inning of relief and they combined to strike out six batters.

Atlanta -- Kenshin Kawakami turned in the longest outing of his major league career with eight shutout innings Friday, bringing Atlanta a 1-0 win over Toronto.
Kawakami, 33, signed with the Braves this year after pitching in Japan throughout his career. He improved to 3-5 after having not thrown more than six innings in any of his previous starts.
The Blue Jays managed just three hits off Kawakami, who struck out seven and got the win when the Braves scraped out a run in the eighth.
Mike Gonzalez gave up a one-out double in the ninth, but retired the next two batters on grounders to collect his seventh save.
