MLB: Philadelphia 7, Houston 4

Philadelphia, Sept. 29: Pedro Feliz hit Philadelphia's 11th grand slam of the season Tuesday in a 7-4 victory over the Houston Astros.

Feliz hit his second grand slam of the season and seventh of his career for the Phillies, whose magic number to win the NL East was reduced to one. With five games remaining, Philadelphia needs only one win or an Atlanta loss to clinch the division title.

Jayson Werth added a two-run homer, as the Phillies won for only the third time in eight games.

J.A. Happ (12-4) went 5 2/3 innings and yielded four runs on nine hits and one walk to become the team's first rookie since 1959 to win that many games.

MLB: Houston 2, Atlanta 1

Houston, Sept. 9: Miguel Tejada's two-run single with one out in the ninth inning Wednesday gave the Houston Astros a dramatic 2-1 decision over Atlanta.

Atlanta starter Tommy Hanson shut down Houston on five hits over eight innings but closer Rafael Soriano (1-5) labored over 20 pitches while giving up the lead.

After Michael Bourn struck out to open the ninth, Kazuo Matsui singled to right and went to third on Lance Berkman's double. Carlos Lee drew an intentional walk to load the bases and Tejada followed by stroking a 1-2 pitch into center.

Houston won for the fifth time in six games and Atlanta has lost six out of seven.

MLB: Houston 7, Philadelphia 0

Houston, Sept. 4: Wandy Rodriguez threw seven shutout innings Friday and Houston gave Cliff Lee his second straight rough outing in blanking Philadelphia 7-0.

Lee (12-11) had been outstanding since being acquired by the Phillies in a July 29 trade with Cleveland, but gave up six runs on 10 hits in five innings against Atlanta last weekend.

In Lee's sixth start for the Phillies, Houston got to him for six runs on nine hits in just three innings.

Rodriguez helped his own cause with a two-run double in the second and then scored on a double by Kazuo Matsui.

Hunter Pence added a two-run homer in the third and Carlos Lee had a solo shot in the fifth to complete the scoring.

MLB: Houston 4, San Francisco 3

Houston, Aug. 3: Kazuo Matsui hit a two-run homer Monday to pace the Houston Astros to a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants.

Geoff Blum also homered for Houston and Carlos Lee was 3-for-4 with an RBI single.

Astros starter Mike Hampton (7-8) held the Giants to two runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings.

Jose Valverde allowed a run in the ninth, but earned his 13th save.

San Francisco starter Matt Cain (12-3) took the loss after allowing all four Houston runs in eight innings.

Ryan Garko had two hits, a walk and an RBI and Pablo Sandoval was 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Giants.

MLB: Houston 7, San Diego 1

San Diego, July 2: Brian Moehler struck out eight over six innings Wednesday and played a key role a six-run Houston fourth that boosted the Astros past San Diego 7-1.

Moehler (5-4) held the Padres to a run on four hits before turning things over to the bull pen in the seventh. He has lost just once in his last seven starts.

The Astros took control when they sent 10 men to the plate in the fourth. Lance Berkman, Carlos Lee, Geoff Blum and Kazuo Matsui all had RBI singles before Moehler came to the plate with the bases loaded and two out.

Moehler hit a grounder to third baseman Chase Headley, but his throw to first was wild and two unearned runs scored to give Houston a 6-1 lead.

MLB: Detroit 4, Houston 3

Houston, June 28: Brandon Inge stroked a two-run home run in the ninth inning Sunday, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 4-3 inter-league win over the Houston Astros.

The two-out blast, Inge's second hit of the game, erased a 3-2 deficit, helped Detroit avert a three-game sweep. The Tigers have homered in 12 consecutive games for the first time since Sept. 4-17, 1999.

Curtis Granderson had three hits and one RBI, while Gerald Laird had a fourth-inning RBI for the Tigers, who had won seven in a row before the series started Friday.

Winner Bobby Seay (1-1) pitched a scoreless eighth, and closer Fernando Rodney worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth to earn his 17th save this season.

MLB: Texas 5, Houston 4

Arlington, Texas June 18: David Murphy's bases-loaded single with one out in the 10th inning Wednesday gave Texas a 5-4 inter-league victory over Houston.

Houston's Ivan Rodriguez, who played most of his career for Texas, established a major league record by catching his 2,227th game. That broke the mark established by Carlton Fisk in 1993.

Rodriguez, however, was charged with two errors Wednesday -- both of which led to Texas runs.

Rodriguez was given a fifth-inning error, although his throw to second appeared perfect, in his bid to catch Omar Vizquel stealing. Vizquel was able to kick the ball out of the glove of second baseman Kazuo Matsui and advanced to third when the ball trickled into center.
