Dodgers, Uribe reach 3-year deal

Los Angeles -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a 3-year, $21 million deal with Giants post-season hero Juan Uribe, multiple media outlets reported Monday.

Uribe, one of the key cogs in San Francisco's run to the 2010 World Championship, has bolted the Bay Area team in favor of its Southern California rival, ESPN, MLB.com and the San Jose Mercury-News reported.

The Mercury-News said Giants Vice President Bobby Evans declined to comment on the deal because it wasn't yet official, but did indicate the team was looking to move in other directions.

MLB: San Francisco 11, Texas 7

San Francisco -- Juan Uribe's three-run homer highlighted a six-run fifth inning Wednesday that sent San Francisco to an 11-7 win over Texas in the World Series opener.

Texas starter Cliff Lee had won all seven of his career playoff decisions, but in the first World Series game in franchise history he was blasted by the Giants.

San Francisco produced six runs on eight hits against Lee in 4 2/3 innings and the Giants eventually pounded out 14 hits in a ragged start to baseball's showcase event.

There were six errors in the game, four committed by the Rangers, although only one run was unearned.

The second game of the best-of-seven series will be played Thursday in San Francisco. Forecasters have called for a 70 percent chance of rain in the area.

MLB: San Francisco 7, San Diego 2

San diego, Oct. 3 -- Juan Uribe's solo homer touched off a six-run seventh inning Friday that lifted San Francisco to a 7-2 victory over San Diego.

Reports circulated during the game that the Padres would announce on Saturday they had fired General Manager Kevin Towers. San Diego is headed for its second straight losing season. Towers has been the team's general manager since 1995.

The lead-off home run by Uribe in the seventh broke a 1-1 tie and the Giants eventually sent 10 men to the plate in the inning. The first five batters reached base and Andres Torres finished off the frame with a two-run double.

MLB: San Francisco 5, Chicago Cubs 1

San Francisco, Sept. 27: Matt Cain gave up three hits in eight scoreless innings Sunday, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Cain (14-7) walked two batters and struck eight on the way to ending a three-start losing streak.

Reliever Sergio Romo yielded a run and two hits before closer Brian Wilson fanned Reed Johnson for the final out to earn his 37th save.

Eli Whiteside led San Francisco with two RBI doubles. Eugenio Velez, Pablo Sandoval and Juan Uribe all had two hits and one RBI for the Giants, who maintained their slim playoff hopes, having won just three of nine.

The Giants trail the Colorado Rockies by five games in the NL wild-card chase.

MLB: Chi. Cubs 2, San Francisco 0

San Francisco, Sept. 26: Carlos Zambrano threw a two-hitter Friday and the Chicago Cubs damaged San Francisco's playoffs hopes with a 2-0 win over the Giants.

In addition to handing the Giants a key setback, the Cubs again prevented the St. Louis Cardinals from clinching the National League Central title.

A win by St. Louis or a loss by the Cubs over the final week of the season will give the Cardinals the division crown. St. Louis missed out on a chance for victory earlier in the evening when it fell to Colorado and the Cubs then forced the Cardinals to wait at least another day by defeating the Giants.

Chicago scored two runs in the ninth inning on Thursday to rally past the Giants and keep St. Louis from clinching the division title.

MLB: San Francisco 5, Arizona 2

Phoenix, Sept. 24 (UPI): Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer Wednesday, San Francisco benefited from two unearned runs and the Giants defeated Arizona 5-2.

San Francisco remained tied with Atlanta for second place in the chase for the National League wild-card berth, four games behind Colorado.

The Giants had allowed 32 runs in their previous four games, but got a well-pitched contest Wednesday from starter Jonathan Sanchez and four relievers. Sanchez (7-12) allowed two runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings to get the win and Brian Wilson struck out the side in the ninth for his 36th save.

Uribe doubled home San Francisco's first run in the second and hit his homer in the sixth to give the Giants a 3-0 advantage.

MLB: San Francisco 10, Colorado 2

San Francisco, Sept. 16: Barry Zito turned in a solid seven innings while four Giants chipped in two RBI apiece in San Francisco's 10-2 drubbing of Colorado Tuesday.

Zito (10-12) gave up two runs on five hits and struck out nine to pull the Giants to within two games of Colorado in the National League wild-card chase.

Juan Uribe, Travis Ishikawa, Bengie Molina and Aaron Rowand each had two RBI as the Giants outhit the Rockies 10-5.

Ubaldo Jimenez (13-11) took the loss for only the second time in his past dozen starts. He lasted 2 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs -- six earned -- on six hits.

Troy Tulowitzki homered for the Rockies, who have lost four consecutive games.

MLB: San Francisco 9, San Diego 4

San Francisco -- Juan Uribe was 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI Monday to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 9-4 win over the San Diego Padres.

It was Uribe's eighth career two-homer game. Pablo Sandoval and Bengie Molina each had two hits and an RBI for the Giants, who remained two games back of Colorado in the NL wild-card race.

Brad Penny (2-0) made his second start for San Francisco since the Giants signed him last week. He held the Padres to two runs on three hits and a walk in seven innings.

Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Hundley homered for San Diego, which had won seven of nine coming into the game.

Clayton Richard (4-2) gave up six runs in four innings to take the loss.

MLB: San Francisco 3, Milwaukee 2

Milwaukee, Sept. 5: Bengie Molina hit an eighth-inning solo homer to give San Francisco the lead Friday and the Giants held on to edge Milwaukee 3-2.

San Francisco, which began the night trailing Colorado by a game in the National League wild-card race, managed only four hits and faced an early 2-0 deficit, but came back to pick up the crucial victory.

The Giants got a big break in the sixth with runners on first and second and two away when Mike Cameron botched a fly ball to center. That allowed Edgar Renteria to score, and Aaron Rowand then delivered a single that brought in Juan Uribe from third.

Molina's game-winning homer came on the first pitch of the eighth inning from Todd Coffey (4-4).

MLB: San Francisco 4, Philadelphia 0

Philadelphia, Sept. 2: Brad Penny allowed five hits in his San Francisco debut Wednesday to help bring the Giants a 4-0 decision over Philadelphia.

Penny (1-0) was released by Boston last week after putting together a 7-8 record and a 5.61 ERA in 24 starts this season.

San Francisco, chasing a playoff berth, quickly signed Penny and he came through in his first outing by blanking the Phillies in a 102-pitch effort.

Jeremy Affeldt completed the shutout by throwing a perfect ninth in a non-save situation.

The Giants began the night's action trailing Colorado by a game in the National League wild-card race.

MLB: San Francisco 4, Arizona 3

San Francisco, Aug. 27: Bengie Molina hit a three-run homer with two out in the eighth inning Wednesday that rallied the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 triumph over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks took a 3-0 lead into the seventh, but that advantage disappeared thanks to a solo homer by Juan Uribe and Molina's 16th blast of the season.

San Francisco's comeback allowed the Giants to close within three games of Colorado for the lead in the National League wild-card race. Arizona has won only once in 10 games.

Arizona starter Doug Davis was still on the mound to start the eighth and he retired the first two men in the inning. Edgar Renteria then drew a walk and Randy Winn singled Renteria to second, driving Davis from the game in place of Chad Qualls (2-2).
