Juan Pierre

MLB: Chi. W. Sox 7, K.C. 6 (2nd game)

Kansas City, Mo. -- Juan Pierre's RBI double in the 10th inning Saturday gave the Chicago White Sox a 7-6 victory over Kansas City in the second game of a doubleheader.

Gordon Beckham led off the frame with a single off Greg Holland (0-1), was sacrificed to second by Raul Castro and one out later came home when Pierre placed a hit down the right-field line.

J.J. Putz (6-5), who allowed the Royals to tie with a run in the ninth, retired Kansas City 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 10th to pick up the win and give the Chisox a split in the doubleheader at Kauffman Stadium.

Castro homered and Alex Rios drove in a pair of runs for Chicago, which remained four games behind Minnesota for first place in the American League Central.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 5, Atlanta 4

Los Angeles, Aug. 7: Andre Ethier hit a three-run homer off Rafael Soriano in the ninth inning Thursday, rallying the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-4 win over Atlanta.

The Braves appeared headed for their third straight win, one that would have moved them within three games of San Francisco for the lead in the National League wild-card chase.

Soriano, however, was unable to retire a batter in the ninth.

Juan Pierre reached on an infield single to open the inning and Rafael Furcal singled to right, sending Pierre to third.

Soriano (1-3) missed the strike zone with his first two pitches to Ethier, who then hit his 23rd homer of the year.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 6, San Diego 3

San Diego, July 4: Matt Kemp finished off a five-run first with a two-run double Friday and the Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed back Manny Ramirez by downing San Diego 6-3.

Ramirez played for the first time since May 6, having served a 50-game suspension for violating baseball's drug policy. He had four plate appearances and did not get the ball out of the infield -- walking in the first inning, grounding out to second in the second, grounding out to shortstop in the fourth and popping out to second in the sixth.

Ramirez was replaced in left field by Juan Pierre after the sixth inning.
The big first inning made a winner out of Hiroki Kuroda (4-5), who lasted 5 1/3 while giving up three runs on four hits.

Ramirez apologizes on return to Dodgers

San Diego, July 3: Los Angeles superstar Manny Rodriguez returned from a 50-game suspension Friday and issued a pre-game apology to Dodger fans and teammates.

Ramirez was in the starting lineup Friday for his team's 80th game of the campaign, a meeting with the San Diego Padres. He had been out of action since May 6, at which time the Dodgers had a 21-8 record.

The Dodgers went into Friday's game with a 50-29 mark and a 7 ½-game lead in the National League West.

Ramirez was suspended for taking a female fertility drug that can be used to mask the use of steroids, various unconfirmed media reports said.

Prior to Friday's game, Ramirez apologized for violating baseball's drug policy.

MLB: LA Dodgers 7, Colorado 1

Denver -- Juan Pierre had two RBIs and scored twice to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-1 road win over the Colorado Rockies Tuesday.

Pierre, who became the Dodgers' starting left fielder when Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games, went 3-for-5 with a triple in the seventh and a two-run single in the eighth.

The offense was more than enough for Eric Milton (1-0) who won for the first time since Sept. 12, 2006. Milton, who sat out last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, went five-plus innings and gave up seven hits, but he struck out three and did not walk anyone.

MLB: LA Dodgers 5, LA Angels 4 (10 inn.)

Los Angeles -- Juan Pierre drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning Saturday to give the LA Dodgers a 5-4 inter-league win over the LA Angels.

Pierre did not have a hit and atoned for leaving five runners on base.

Russell Martin had two hits and two RBI. Casey Blake had three hits and one RBI, and James Loney added two hits and one RBI for the Dodgers, who have won five of six.

The winner was closer Jonathan Broxton (5-0).

One of two hits for Torii Hunter was a three-run homer in the fifth.

Juan Rivera also had three hits -- one a fourth-inning solo shot.

Robb Quinlan had three hits and Howie Kendrick added two hits for the Angels, who have split their last four outings.
