Screenings of 'Grease' selling out

Hollywood -- Paramount Pictures says weekend screenings of the sing-a-long version of "Grease" are selling out across the United States.

Sellouts have been reported in Austin, Texas; Los Angeles; New York; Ocala, Fla.; San Diego and San Francisco for the engagements of the 1978 film classic starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the studio said in a news release Thursday.
Travolta's hometown of Ocala has reported all showings of the limited engagement are sold out.

Sing-a-long re-release of 'Grease' planned

Hollywood -- Paramount Pictures says it will release "Grease: Sing-A-Long" in five U.S. cities that have the most fans who demand it.

"Grease: Sing-A-Long" is to begin playing July 8 in exclusive showings in 12 major markets across the United States.

Fans in smaller towns can voice their desire to see the new version of the iconic film at http://www.Eventful.com/Grease. The winning locations are expected to be announced Monday.

The announcement comes on the heels of Ocala, Fla. -- "Grease" star John Travolta's hometown -- "demanding" to be among the first select cities to open the digitally re-mastered, sing-a-long version of the classic movie musical.

Travolta, whose film credits include "Grease," "Saturday Night Fever" and "Pulp Fiction," said he wanted to do what he could to help Haitians in the wake of their nation's catastrophic Jan. 12 earthquake, which some reports estimate left 200,000 people dead, The Guardian reported.

Along with food and medical supplies, Travolta also brought his wife, actress Kelly Preston, and some of their fellow Scientologists to help out with the relief effort, the Guardian said.

Nassau -- A Bahamian judge declared a mistrial Wednesday in the John Travolta extortion case, E! News said.

Former Bahamian Sen. Pleasant Bridgewater and ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne, the defendants in the trial, pleaded innocent to charges they told the U.S. movie star's representatives they would leak a sensitive document to the media if he did not pay them $25 million.

The document pertained to the transportation of the Travolta's autistic 16-year-old son, Jett, who ultimately died after suffering a seizure at the family's vacation home.

The jury hearing the case began deliberations Wednesday after closing arguments in the month-long trial wrapped up in the morning.
