New York-- New York Mets pitcher Johan Santana had surgery Tuesday on his left shoulder to repair a torn capsule, the team said.
Santana, 31, left his most recent start Sept. 2 with a shoulder problem that was later diagnosed as a torn capsule --soft tissue on the front, bottom of the shoulder -- and surgery was recommended.
The Mets said the procedure Tuesday was a success but no schedule for Santana's return was announced.
Santana is 11-9 with a 2.98 earned run average this season. He is in the third year of a six-year deal that is worth $137.5 million.
