Cincinnati, Sept. 29: Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer and a two-run homer Tuesday to power the Cincinnati Reds in a 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joey Votto added a solo homer as the Reds won for the seventh time in eight games and sent the National League Central Division champions to their fourth loss in five games.

Winning pitcher Homer Bailey (7-5) gave up seven hits and a run while striking out seven over seven innings.

Losing pitcher Joel Pineiro (15-12) allowed seven runs and eight hits and seven runs over six innings.

Albert Pujols drove in a run for St. Louis for his 133rd RBI this season. David Freese hit his first career home run.

MLB: St. Louis 11, Houston 2

Houston, Sept. 23: Mark DeRosa and Yadier Molina each drove in a pair of runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals in a 11-2 drubbing of Houston Tuesday.

The win chipped the Cardinals' magic number in the National League Central to two games.

Colby Rasmus hit his 16th home run of the season as part of a 15-hit St. Louis attack.

Joel Pineiro (15-11) got the win with seven solid innings. Pineiro, the third St. Louis starter to reach 15 wins this season, held the Astros to one run on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Yorman Bazardo (0-2) took the loss after being roughed up for six runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings.

MLB: St. Louis 7, Milwaukee 6

St. Louis, Sept. 2: Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday homered for the St. Cardinals Tuesday in their 7-6 win over Milwaukee.

Holliday's three-run blast in the seventh inning proved to be the game-winner for the surging Cards, who have won eight of their last nine games and 15 of their last 18.

Holliday nailed a fast ball from Todd Coffey, who had come on to relieve David Weathers (3-5) with the score tied 4-4, after Weathers gave up a double to Skip Schumaker and then intentionally walked Pujols.

Joel Pineiro (14-9) won his eighth consecutive decision by holding the Brewers to four runs on seven hits in seven innings.

MLB: St. Louis 3, Houston 2

St. Louis, Aug. 26: Joel Pineiro gave up two runs in eight innings Wednesday in carrying the St. Louis Cardinals to their fourth straight victory -- 3-2 over Houston.

The Cardinals have won each of Pineiro's last 10 starts and he is 7-0 with a 2.65 ERA during that span. He improved to 13-9 by allowing seven hits and striking out five Wednesday.

St. Louis took command with a three-run first, when Mark DeRosa contributed a two-run double.

After giving up two runs in the fourth, Pineiro allowed only two singles until being relieved in the ninth by Trever Miller. Miller retired leadoff batter Lance Berkman in the ninth and then gave way to Ryan Franklin.

MLB: St. Louis 5, San Diego 1

San Diego, Aug. 21: A grand slam homer by Brendan Ryan and a four-hit performance by Joel Pineiro Thursday lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-1 victory over San Diego.

The Cardinals are 3-1 on a seven-game western road trip and have reached 70 victories for the season.

Ryan's homer -- his second long ball of the season in 272 at bats -- came in the second inning. Pineiro (12-9) took over from there, carrying a two-hitter into the eighth inning.

Pineiro eventually loaded the bases with two away in the eighth and was replaced by Kyle McClellan, who got David Eckstein on a grounder to shortstop to end the threat.

MLB: St. Louis 2, Arizona 1

St. Louis -- Winning pitcher Joel Pineiro hit a key two-run double Sunday, boosting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Pineiro's seventh hit this season -- coming with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth -- broke up a scoreless tie.

Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina and Skip Schumaker had the other hits for the Cardinals, who won for the second time in the three-game series despite getting just the four hits.

Pineiro (8-9) gave up a run and five hits in seven innings before Trever Miller pitched a scoreless eighth and closer Ryan Franklin a scoreless ninth to earn his 22nd save.

MLB: St. Louis 3, N.Y. Mets 0

United States, N.Y. June 23: Joel Pineiro pitched a two-hit shutout and was 2-for-4 with a run scored Tuesday to pace the St. Louis Cardinals' 3-0 win over the New York Mets.

Pineiro (6-8) had his 11th career complete game.

Brendan Ryan was 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Cardinals, who have won four of their last five games. Albert Pujols had a two-run single and Skip Schumaker went 2-for-3 and scored once.

Losing pitcher Livan Hernandez (5-2) allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings.

Luis Castillo and pinch-hitter Jeremy Reed had the only hits for the injury-riddled Mets.

MLB: San Francisco 4, St. Louis 2

San Francisco -- Matt Cain gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings Friday and won his fourth straight decision, helping bring the San Francisco Giants a 4-2 victory over St. Louis.

The Cardinals lost for the first time in three games and fell back into a tie with Milwaukee atop the National League Central.

Cain (6-1) struck out five and allowed six hits before leaving with one on and one out in the seventh.

St. Louis did not manage a single base runner against three relievers, with Brian Wilson working the ninth for his 11th save.

Pablo Sandoval drove in the first two San Francisco runs with a first-inning single and the Giants scored twice more in the fourth when Fred Lewis tripled in a run. Lewis then came in on a single by Emmanuel Burriss.
