Aerosmith may be Aerosmith reconstituted

Calgary, Alberta -- Aerosmith co-founder Joe Perry says he was blindsided by the news that vocalist Steven Tyler plans to join "American Idol" as a judge.

Perry's uncertainty about the band's future has been brewing for more than a year -- as fissures began during the Boston band's 2009 summer tour that was cut short when Tyler fell from a South Dakota stage and broke his shoulder, the Calgary Herald reported Tuesday.

"Technically speaking, after the gig in Vancouver (on Sept. 16), I don't have a job with Aerosmith," Perry told the Herald before the group's Friday show in Calgary. "I don't know when we'll be out there again, the five of us, so we'll be playing with everything we've got."

Tyler unharmed in Toronto stage fall

Toronto -- Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry sent his band mate Steven Tyler careening off the stage and into the audience at a Canadian concert, the Toronto Star reported.

The incident happened during the group's performance of the song "Love in an Elevator" at the Air Canada Centre Tuesday night.

The Star said Tyler, 62, playfully hip-checked Perry and the guitarist backed into the singer in retaliation, knocking him off the stage, but not hurting him.
Concertgoers helped push Tyler back on stage to Perry's outstretched hand, the newspaper said.

"That's never gonna happen again, baby," Tyler said. "You'll pay for that, my brother."

Perry displeased with Tyler's 'Idol' buzz

Boston -- Aerosmith's Joe Perry admits he was irked to read on the Internet about the possibility lead singer Steven Tyler might become an "American Idol" judge.

The 40-year-old rock band recently started touring again after Tyler finished a stint in rehab and settled his differences with Perry, the band's co-founder and guitarist.

"I found out on the Internet like the rest of the world," Perry told The Boston Herald of the "Idol" reports. "There was an Aerosmith after party at Studio 54 after the Vegas show -- which none of us in the band knew anything about -- and he said some stuff there. I mean, this is no small thing."

Rodgers: I was asked to join Aerosmith

Boston -- Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers told the Boston Herald Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry approached him about taking over for lead singer Steven Tyler in 2009.

Perry and Tyler, who founded the band in 1969, had a falling-out last year that left the future of Aerosmith up in the air. Since then, Tyler has sought help for various medical issues and undergone treatment for drug addiction.

However, before Perry and Tyler patched things up and the band began performing together again, Perry talked to Rodgers about replacing Tyler last November.

Rodgers told the Herald he declined the offer, encouraging Perry to work it out with Tyler instead of trying to find a new lead singer.

Perry says Tyler likely leaving Aerosmith

Boston -- Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry says the U.S. rockers' lead singer, Steven Tyler, apparently bagged on the band after a United Arab Emirates show.

Speaking with the Las Vegas Sun Friday, Perry said he believes Tyler quit Aerosmith after a recent concert in Abu Dhabi and an online report appears to confirm his suspicion.

"Steven quit, as far as I can tell," Perry said. "I don't know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever."

Perry told the Sun he would attempt to keep Aerosmith moving forward, even if Tyler part ways with his bandmates.

Aerosmith break results in Perry solo work

Duxbury, Mass. -- Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry says the forced tour hiatus of the U.S. rock band resulted in his recording a solo album, "Have Guitar, Will Travel."

Perry, 59, said while he is aggravated regarding the band's hiatus due to injuries suffered by singer Steven Tyler during a fall in August, there is little chance Aerosmith may have played its last concert together, The Boston Globe reported Sunday.

"The band is not breaking up,'' Perry told the Globe. "I think it's smart to just take some time off.''

Perry used the break from Aerosmith to record "Have Guitar" in 47 days and on Tuesday, Perry's fifth solo album will be released.

Brown cooks up love sauce

Country rocker Zac Brown has become the latest celebrity to get into the relish business - the Chicken Fried hitmaker is about to launch his new Love Sauce line.

The Zac Brown Band leader, a former chef, has been developing a new meat sauce line to help fans cook up a treat.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "It's going to be on sale soon. You can put it on anything. I've spent hours perfecting it.

"I like to marinate pork or chicken in the sauce, and char that meat on a hot grill, then pour that sauce back on it... People will be impressed."

Brown's new relish will compete for space in the shopping trolleys of America alongside sauce lines from Aerosmith star Joe Perry, stoner icon Cheech Marin and rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kiss. (KL/RS/MJ)

Perry : 'Aerosmith need to take it easy'

Aerosmith star Joe Perry has conceded the band needs to start scaling back their live shows - because the ageing rockers are not as fit as they once were.

The Walk This Way hitmakers have been forced to scrap the rest of their summer tour after frontman Steven Tyler took a nasty tumble during a concert in South Dakota.

The 61-year-old singer fell off the stage during an energetic dance routine and his injuries forced the cancellation of their live dates.

Perry admits the group is often too ambitious when it comes to playing live and they need to start taking it easy as they near retirement age.
