JetAmerica suspends flights indefinitely

Miami, July 19: JetAmerica, based in Florida, has suspended flights to all markets indefinitely and said it would notify customers and give refunds for tickets.

"We are reluctantly suspending our public charter operations effective today," John Weikle, chief executive officer, said in a statement Friday. "We still strongly believe that there is an unmet need for affordable air service to secondary markets and we look forward to offering this option again in the near future."

JetAmerica had planned to offer discount flights from Toledo, Ohio, to a few destinations, including the New York area, the Toledo Blade said. Weikle said finalizing the slots needed at Newark International Airport took longer than expected.

JetAmerica's launch delayed by FAA snafu

Clearwater, Fla. -- U.S. charter air carrier JetAmerica says it is delaying the start of its regularly scheduled flights due to a mix-up with federal aviation authorities.

Brian Burling, JetAmerica's vice president of operations, blamed the Federal Aviation Administration for the delay, saying in a release Friday it had announced its flights would begin July 13 based on the FAA indicating the company would be able to obtain airport slots at Newark (N.J.) Liberty International Airport.

But a subsequent FAA advisory indicated the Newark slots had yet to be finalized, meaning the airline's launch would have to be pushed back to Aug. 14, Burling said.
