Dodgers set rotation for Philadelphia

Los Angeles, Oct. 15: The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped pitchers Jeff Weaver and Jon Garland and added Hiroki Kuroda before Thursday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Kuroda is expected to start Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday.

He has been trying to recover from a herniated disc in his neck.

Also added was rookie third left-handed reliever Scott Elbert, who was inactive against St. Louis.

Garland won three times after he was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks in July, and did not pitch against the St. Louis Cardinals in the Division Series.

"We just felt with (Philadelphia), we wanted the option of another left-hander," Manager Joe Torre said on the Dodgers' Web site.

Los Angeles, Oct. 8: Matt Kemp put Los Angeles ahead with a home run three pitches into the first inning Wednesday and the Dodgers beat St. Louis 5-3 in their playoff series opener.

In a game filled with wasted opportunities, the teams combined to leave 30 runners on base. The Cardinals had 12 men on through the first four innings and could score only two of them.

After the Cardinals scored a run in the top of the first, the Dodgers quickly took the lead for good against Chris Carpenter. Rafael Furcal led off the bottom of the inning with a single to left on an 0-1 pitch and Kemp then hit Carpenter's next offering over the wall in center for a 2-1 lead.

St. Louis, July 30: Albert Pujols singled home Julio Lugo from second with two out in the 15th inning Wednesday, giving St. Louis a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Pujols finally ended a five-hour game that saw the Cardinals win their third straight and stay in a virtual tie with the Chicago Cubs atop the National League Central. The Dodgers have lost four in a row.

St. Louis scored in the ninth to tie it at 1-1 and both sides produced a run in the 11th.

Los Angeles missed a chance to take the lead in the 12th when Manny Ramirez was thrown out at home trying to score from second on a two-out single by Casey Blake.
