Rollins holds on to win Reno PGA event

Reno, Nev. Aug. 9: John Rollins shot three bogeys and a double-bogey Sunday but was still able to win the $540,000 Reno-Tahoe Open by three strokes.

Rollins mixed his over-par holes with three birdies and an eagle and came away with an even-par round of 72, and a somewhat more-impressive 17-under 271 for the tournament.

"It was kind of an up and down day," Rollins said after notching his third career PGA win.

Jeff Quinney and Martin Laird tied for second.

Rollins led by four strokes heading into Sunday's final round and promptly birdied the second hole at Montreux Golf and Country Club. A missed chip shot and two-putt on the par-5 fourth hole knocked him back to 16-under.

Bo Van Pelt bags his first PGA title

Milwaukee, July 19: Bo Van Pelt sank a 3-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff with John Mallinger Sunday and won the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

The win was Van Pelt's first in nearly eight years on the PGA Tour.

"I guess there comes a point where you draw a line in the sand and say 'enough's enough,'" Van Pelt said. "I had enough good chances and hadn't got it done."

The two players had finished regulation play at 13-under-par 267 after Van Pelt closed with a 6-under 64 and Mallinger carded a 65.

Van Pelt won $720,000.

Jerry Kelly (65) took third place at 268. Dicky Pride (65), Jeff Quinney (67) and Jeff Klauk (67) tied for fourth, another stroke back.

Lickliter leads U.S. Bank Championship

Milwaukee, July 18: Frank Lickliter shot a 7-under 63 Saturday to take a one-stroke lead after the third round of the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee.

Lickliter finished 54 holes at 11-under 199. Overnight leader Greg Chalmers of Australia posted a 69 Saturday and dropped into second place at 10-under 200.

Jeff Maggert (66) and Chris Riley (68) are tied in third place at 201.

Lickliter has two PGA Tour victories -- 2001 at the TPC at Avenel and the 2003 Chrysler Classic of Tucson. Both came after he held a piece of the 54-hole lead.

"It's a combination of a lot of things," Lickliter said of his play this week.
