Astros' Keppinger on disabled list

Houston -- Houston Astros infielder Jeff Keppinger's has landed on the 15-day disabled list with an injured big left toe.

Keppinger, who injured the toe Tuesday, is hitting .285 with five home runs and 46 RBI in 108 games. He leads the Astros with 28 doubles.

Houston recalled infielder Anderson Hernandez from Class AAA Round Rock to fill Keppinger's roster spot. Hernandez was 2-for-13 with a walk in six games earlier this season with the Astros.

MLB: Houston 9, St. Louis 4

St. Louis -- Jeff Keppinger drove in four runs, including three during a late-game rally, leading the Houston Astros to a 9-4 victory over St. Louis Monday.

The Astros scored three runs in the eighth inning off Mike MacDougall (1-1) and four in the ninth to erase a 4-2 deficit and win going away.

Keppinger delivered an RBI double in the eighth to tie the score 4-4 and added a two-run single in the final frame to turn the game into a rout for Houston, which knocked the Cardinals out of first place in the National League Central. The Cincinnati Reds, who beat Pittsburgh Monday 4-0, lead by a half game.

Chris Johnson added two hits and a pair of RBI for the victors.

MLB: Houston 5, Pittsburgh 2

Pittsburgh -- Jeff Keppinger had an RBI in three different at bats Friday and Brett Myers worked 7 2/3 innings to bring the Houston Astros a 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

Houston won for the fifth time in seven games, but still has the third-worst record in the National League ahead of only Pittsburgh and Arizona.

Keppinger had an RBI groundout in the first inning, hit a solo homer in the sixth and doubled home another run in the seventh.

Myers (7-6) limited Pittsburgh to two runs on five hits and extended his franchise record to 19 straight starts of at least six innings to begin a season.

Matt Lindstrom worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 22nd save.

MLB: Houston 4, St. Louis 3

St. Louis -- Jeff Keppinger's solo homer Thursday led the Houston Astros to a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Keppinger's fourth homer this season, his only hit, snapped a 3-3 tie with two outs in the top of the ninth.

Kaz Matsui had two hits and one RBI.

Michael Bourn had one RBI, while Chris Coste added two hits for the Astros, who averted a three-game sweep.

The winner was closer Jose Valverde (2-2).

Starter Brian Moehler gave up three runs and six hits in six innings.
St. Louis scored on Ryan Ludwick's sixth-inning two-run single and Matt Holliday's solo homer in the second.

Julio Lugo had two of the eight hits for the Cardinals, who had won four in a row.

MLB: Houston 1, Arizona 0

Houston, Aug. 21: Roy Oswalt allowed three hits over seven innings Friday and teamed with two relievers in a shutout, bringing Houston a 1-0 decision over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks opened a 10-game, four-city trip by losing their sixth in a row.

Oswalt (7-4) ended a steak of four straight no-decisions with a 100-pitch effort.

He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

He gave up singles to Trent Oeltjen and Alex Romero to start the third, but escaped that trouble and then allowed only one other hit through the seventh.

LaTroy Hawkins worked a perfect eighth and Jose Valverde survived a two-out single in the ninth to grab his 19th save.

MLB: Houston 6, Florida 3

Houston, Aug. 20: Michael Bourn tripled in a run, scored twice and stole two bases Wednesday, boosting the Houston Astros to a 6-3 victory over Florida.

The Marlins wasted one scoring chance after another, eventually stranding 17 runners. They left the bases loaded three times and committed three errors that led to three unearned runs.

Florida had 11 hits, making it the 15th straight game the Marlins have had at least 10. That ties a major league record set in 1929 by the New York Giants and tied in 1937 by the St. Louis Browns.

MLB: Houston 11, Chicago Cubs 6

Chicago, July 28: Miguel Tejada had a home run and five RBI Tuesday to lead the Houston Astros to an 11-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Geoff Blum belted the go-ahead homer in the seventh, and Jeff Keppinger had four hits, three RBI and three runs for the Astros. Michael Bourn added three hits and three runs for Houston.

Houston's starting pitcher, Roy Oswalt, lasted just 1 2/3 innings before leaving with a lower back strain. Jeff Fulchino (4-3) gave up three runs in three innings, but got the win.

Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run homer for the Cubs, who lost for just the third time in 12 games.

MLB: Houston 4, St. Louis 3

Houston, July 22: Miguel Tejada singled home Jeff Keppinger from second with two out in the ninth Wednesday, rallying Houston to a 3-2 victory over St. Louis.

The Astros scored twice in the ninth to further tighten the race in the National League Central. The Cardinals had their division lead reduced to a half game over the Chicago Cubs, who recorded a 10-5 win over Philadelphia earlier in the day.

Houston is only one game behind the Cardinals and Milwaukee, despite losing Wednesday, is only 2 1/2 games off the lead.

Houston managed eight hits in eight innings against starter Chris Carpenter, but still faced a 3-2 deficit.

MLB: Houston 9, Washington 4

Houston, July 9: Houston took the lead with a pair of triples in the sixth Thursday and Lance Berkman added a three-run homer to help the Astros to a 9-4 win over Washington.

The teams played their regularly scheduled game after beginning the night by finishing a contest that had been suspended May 5. The Nationals won that game 11-10 with a run in the 11th inning.

Washington jumped to a 4-2 lead in the second contest, but Jeff Keppinger tied the game in the sixth with a two-run triple and then scored one out later on a triple by Michael Bourn. Tejada then drove in Bourn with a single to give the Astros a 6-4 advantage.

Berkman hit his 18th homer of the year in the eighth.
