MLB: Cincinnati 7, St. Louis 2

Cincinnati, Sept. 29: Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer and a two-run homer Tuesday to power the Cincinnati Reds in a 7-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Joey Votto added a solo homer as the Reds won for the seventh time in eight games and sent the National League Central Division champions to their fourth loss in five games.

Winning pitcher Homer Bailey (7-5) gave up seven hits and a run while striking out seven over seven innings.

Losing pitcher Joel Pineiro (15-12) allowed seven runs and eight hits and seven runs over six innings.

Albert Pujols drove in a run for St. Louis for his 133rd RBI this season. David Freese hit his first career home run.

MLB: Cincinnati 10, Houston 4

Houston, Sept. 26: Joey Votto drove in four runs and Cincinnati roughed up Houston for 17 hits Friday en route to a 10-4 drubbing of the Astros.

Votto hit a solo homer in the first, his 23rd of the year, and climaxed a five-run second with a three-run double.

Jay Bruce tacked on a solo homer in the fifth, helping boost the Reds to their fifth straight victory. At one point in late August, the Reds were 20 games below .500. Their current winning streak has brought them within eight games of the break-even mark.

Matt Maloney (2-4) took advantage of the offensive onslaught to get the win. He allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings.

MLB: Cincinnati 3, Houston 1

Cincinnati, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Jay Bruce hit a pinch-hit, two-run single in the seventh inning Monday to give the Cincinnati Reds a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros.

Bruce was activated off the 15-day disabled list earlier Monday, having been sidelined since July with a fractured wrist. Brandon Phillips homered in the eight inning for the Reds.

Bronson Arroyo (13-12) earned the win after holding the Astros to a run on six hits in seven innings.

Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez (13-10) was charged with the loss. He held Cincinnati scoreless through six full innings, but allowed the first two batters in the home seventh to reach base before being pulled. He gave up five hits and struck out eight in six-plus innings.

MLB: New York Mets 4, Cincinnati 0

New York, July 11: Johan Santana threw seven scoreless innings Saturday, leading the New York Mets to a 4-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

Santana (10-7) got the win after giving up five hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Pedro Feliciano and closer Francisco Rodriguez finished the shutout.

Jeff Francoeur, playing his first game since being acquired from Atlanta for Ryan Church, had two hits and two RBI. Omir Santos had three hits and one RBI, Luis Castillo drove in a run and Angel Pagan had two hits for the Mets, who won just the second time in eight games.

MLB: Cincinnati 7, Cleveland 3

Cleveland, June 28: Homer Bailey escaped a shaky effort Saturday, yielding three runs and three hits in five innings, when the Cincinnati Reds beat Cleveland 7-3.

Bailey (1-0) got his first victory since Sept. 30, 2006, despite walking seven batters and throwing two wild pitches in five innings.

Jay Bruce had two RBI -- one on a second-inning solo homer. Jerry Hairston Jr. had three hits and one RBI.

Joey Votto and Chris Dickerson both had two hits and one RBI, while Laynce Nix had two runs and two hits for the Reds, who had lost five of six.

MLB: Cincinnati 4, Atlanta 3

Cincinnati, June 17: Micah Owings won for the first time in seven starts Wednesday, helping himself with a three-run homer in the fifth in Cincinnati's 4-3 victory over Atlanta.

The Reds trailed 2-1 going into the fifth, but Javier Vazquez walked Jerry Hairston to open the inning and Ryan Hanigan singled Hairston to third.

That brought up the Cincinnati pitcher, who hit an 0-1 pitch over the wall in right for his second home run of the season and the seventh of his three-year major league career.

Owings (4-7) gave up two runs on six hits in six innings. Francisco Cordero worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to earn his 16th save.

Vazquez (4-6) went the distance, giving up just four hits and striking out seven.

MLB: Cincinnati 6, Houston 1

Cincinnati -- Jay Bruce's two home runs and four RBI backed up a complete-game effort from Bronson Arroyo Wednesday and brought Cincinnati a 6-1 win over Houston.

Arroyo (7-3) went the distance for just the seventh time in his 10-year career, allowing a run on five hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Bruce hit a solo homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the sixth, then tripled in the game's final run in the eighth.

The Reds won their fourth straight and handed the Astros their seventh consecutive setback.

Cincinnati's Jerry Hariston added a solo homer in the first to overcome an early deficit.

The loss went to Felipe Paulino (1-4), who gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings.
