MLB: Chi. White Sox 10, N.Y. Yankees 5

Chicago, July 31: Chris Getz highlighted a four-run seventh with a two-run single Friday and the Chicago White Sox erased an early 3-0 deficit to down the New York Yankees 10-5.

Chicago beat the Yankees for the second straight night, shrinking New York's lead over Boston in the American League East to 1 ½ games.

Mark Teixeira doubled home two of the three New York runs in the first. The White Sox rallied for a 5-3 advantage through three innings and the Yankees came back to tie it in the fourth on Eric Hinske's two-run homer.

Chicago took the lead for good in the fifth on Carlos Quentin's RBI double off losing pitcher David Robertson (1-1) and broke the game open with the four runs in the seventh.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 6, Cleveland 2

Cleveland, July 1: Ramon Castro's three-run homer in the sixth put Chicago in front Wednesday and the White Sox completed a three-game sweep of Cleveland 6-2.

Chicago won its fifth straight and inched within three games of division-leading Detroit in the American League Central.

Jose Contreras (3-7) continued to turn his season around with an eight-inning effort, during which he gave up two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. After losing his first five decisions this year, he has won three out of five.

The score was tied going into the sixth before the White Sox erupted for four runs off Jeremy Sowers (2-6). Jim Thome reached on a one-out single and moved to third on a base hit by Paul Konerko.
