Nadal ends two-month absence with win

Montreal, Aug. 12: Roger Nadal, appearing for the first time since the French Open, reached the second round of the Rogers Cup Wednesday without having to play a full set.

Nadal, seeded second, won his second-round match at this ATP Tour Masters event when David Ferrer retired with a left knee injury. Nadal had a 4-3 lead in the opening set when Ferrer called it quits.

Nadal had not played since the fourth round of the French Open in June. He has been sidelined since then due to soreness in both knees.

He was joined in the third round by Andy Roddick and Juan Martin del Potro, who won last week's ATP Tour stop in Washington.
