St. Petersburg, Fla., Sept. 30: Ben Zobrist hit a three-run homer Wednesday that helped the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-3 win over Baltimore, the Orioles' 13th straight loss and 98th of the season.

Tampa Bay clinched the second winning season in its 12-year history. The first winning campaign (97-65) came last year en route to an American League pennant.

Zobrist hit his 26th homer of the season to give Tampa Bay a 4-0 lead in the third. Carl Crawford added a solo shot in the fifth.

James Shields (11-12) took a shutout into the eighth inning, but gave up three runs in that frame. His eight strikeouts equaled a season high.

Russ Springer retired two batters in the ninth to collect his first save in eight years.

MLB: Tampa Bay 11, Toronto 4

St. Petersburg, Fla., Sept. 19: Evan Longoria drove in three runs and scored three times Friday, pacing Tampa Bay to an 11-4 romp over Toronto.

Tampa Bay, which has fallen out of playoff contention with a late-season slump, won for just the third time in 16 games.

Longoria had an RBI single during a six-run third inning and hit a two-run homer in the eighth to finish the scoring.

Tampa Bay had 16 hits, four of them from Carl Crawford.

James Shields (10-11) got the win despite giving up four runs on nine hits in six innings. He struck out seven. It is the third straight season Shields has won at least 10 games.

Toronto, Aug. 25: Carlos Pena hit a pair of two-run homers Tuesday and the Tampa Bay Rays added to their success against Toronto this season by downing the Blue Jays 7-3.

Pena's homers came in the second and third innings, helping the Rays built a quick 6-1 lead.

Tampa Bay defeated Toronto for the 11th time in 14 meetings this year and stayed within three games of Boston for the lead in the American League wild-card race.

James Shields (8-10) allowed eight hits but only three runs in 6 1/3 innings to get the win. Shields had gone 1-4 in his previous five starts.

Both of Pena's homers came off Brett Cecil (5-3), who surrendered five runs on six hits in 3 1/3.

St. Petersburg, Fla. Aug. 20: Brian Roberts hit a grand slam in the sixth and Nolan Reimold had a three-run shot one inning later Thursday, lifting Baltimore to an 8-7 win over Tampa Bay.

Reimold's homer gave the Orioles an 8-4 cushion and they barely held onto the lead to salvage the final contest in the three-game series and avoid a sweep.

The Rays had a four-game winning streak snapped and fell four games behind Boston in the American League wild-card race. Baltimore had lost its previous five games.

Tampa Bay closed within one run with a three-run eighth -- two of the runs scoring on a broken-bat bloop to left by Carlos Pena.

MLB: New York Yankees 11, Tampa Bay 4
