MLB: Oakland 11, Chicago White Sox 3

Chicago, Sept. 8 Jack Cust hit a three-run homer in a five-run first inning Tuesday to boost the Oakland Athletics to an 11-3 thrashing of the Chicago White Sox.

Ryan Sweeney was 4-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. Scott Hairston and Kurt Suzuki each had two RBI, Rajai Davis had three hits, three runs and an RBI, and Mark Ellis added a solo homer for Oakland.

Brett Tomko (4-3) got the win after allowing three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Carlos Torres (1-1), coming off his first big league win in his previous start, didn't make it out of the first inning after surrendering five runs on four hits.

Paul Konerko and Mark Kotsay each homered for Chicago.

MLB: Oakland 10, Kansas City 4

Oakland, Calif. Sept. 2: Landon Powell hit his first career grand slam Wednesday in Oakland's 10-4 victory over Kansas City.

Powell's grand slam, his fifth homer this season, capped a five-run inning, giving Oakland an 8-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second.

Rajai Davis and Ryan Sweeney had two hits and two RBI apiece.

Mark Ellis drove in a run.

Sweeney drove in a run with a groundout, while Jack Cust and Adam Kennedy added two hits each for the Athletics, who have split their last eight games.

Winner Trevor Cahill (8-12) gave up three runs and six hits in five innings.

Josh Anderson led Kansas City with two hits and one RBI.

MLB: Oakland 9, Kansas City 4

Kansas City, Mo. Aug. 8: Cliff Pennington and Scott Hairston drove in two runs each during a five-run fourth inning Friday, propelling Oakland to a 9-4 win over Kansas City.

Oakland won for the fourth time in five games despite allowing the Royals 14 hits.

The Athletics sent 10 men to the plate in the fourth against Brian Bannister (7-8) and scored five runs on five hits to take control of the game.

Jack Cust opened the inning with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on a ground out by Kurt Suzuki and scored on another Bannister wild pitch.

MLB: Oakland 3, Texas 2

Oakland, Calif. Aug. 4: Rajai Davis smacked a pinch-hit, two-run triple to finish off a three-run ninth inning Monday and the Oakland A's came from behind to beat Texas 3-2.

The A's trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the ninth but got a run on successive singles by Jack Cust, Tommy Everidge and Mark Ellis -- setting up Davis' game-winner off Rangers' reliever C.J. Wilson (4-5).

Oakland starter Brett Anderson went 7 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts, but did not figure in the decision.

Michael Wuertz (6-1) got the win in relief, going 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with no walks and one strikeout.

MLB: LA Angels 1, Oakland 0

Oakland, Calif. July 19: Bobby Abreu's 10th-inning homer produced the lone run Sunday and gave the Los Angeles Angels a 1-0 win over Oakland.

Starters John Lackey of the Angels and Oakland's Brett Anderson were locked in a scoreless dual through eight innings before closer and losing pitcher Andrew Bailey (4-2) entered in the top of the ninth.

Abreu's homer, his seventh of the season, settled the issue with one out in the top of the 10th. He finished with two of the three hits for the Angels, who won three times in the four-game series.

Lackey (5-4) surrendered three hits in nine innings with a walk and six strikeouts.

Closer Brian Fuentes earned his 28th save despite giving up Bobby Crosby's one-out infield single.

MLB: Oakland 5, Detroit 1

Oakland, Calif. July 1: Jack Cust and Jason Giambi belted two-run homers Wednesday, keying Oakland's 5-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.

The 14th homer by Cust this season erased an early 1-0 deficit with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, while Giambi's 11th upped the lead to 4-1 with no outs in the sixth.

Kurt Suzuki had one RBI for the Athletics, who won twice in the three-game series following a five-game losing streak.

Winner Dallas Braden (6-7) surrendered an earned run and five hits in seven innings before a mop-up by relievers Brad Ziegler and Andrew Bailey.

Detroit's run scored on Gerald Laird's second-inning double.

MLB: Detroit 5, Oakland 3

Oakland, Calif. July 1: Placido Polanco homered and Armando Galarraga picked up his second consecutive win in Detroit's 5-3 win over Oakland Tuesday.

Galarraga (5-7) held Oakland to two hits and a run over 6 1/3 innings while striking out five and walking six.

Mark Ellis hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth for the Athletics, who managed just five hits and lost for the sixth time in their last seven games. Gio Gonzalez (0-2) took the loss with three runs and seven hits in five innings.

Gonzalez got into trouble right off the bat by walking Curtis Granderson to lead off the game and then serving up Polanco's two-run homer.

MLB: Oakland 7, Kansas City 2

Oakland, Calif. -- Jack Cust produced three of his four RBI with a bases-loaded double in the seventh inning Wednesday, lifting Oakland to a 7-2 win over Kansas City.

The Athletics completed a two-game sweep of the Royals by handing Brian Bannister his first loss of the season.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead into the sixth, but Jason Giambi doubled home a run to tie it and Cust put the Royals in front with a sacrifice fly.

Both those runs were charged to Bannister (3-1), who came into the contest with an ERA of 1.48.

Horacio Ramirez opened the seventh on the mound for Kansas City and Oakland sent 10 men to the plate in the inning while scoring five times.
