MLB: Philadelphia 7, Houston 4

Philadelphia, Sept. 29: Pedro Feliz hit Philadelphia's 11th grand slam of the season Tuesday in a 7-4 victory over the Houston Astros.

Feliz hit his second grand slam of the season and seventh of his career for the Phillies, whose magic number to win the NL East was reduced to one. With five games remaining, Philadelphia needs only one win or an Atlanta loss to clinch the division title.

Jayson Werth added a two-run homer, as the Phillies won for only the third time in eight games.

J.A. Happ (12-4) went 5 2/3 innings and yielded four runs on nine hits and one walk to become the team's first rookie since 1959 to win that many games.

MLB: Philadelphia 9, Atlanta 4

Atlanta, Sept. 19: Ryan Howard hit two of Philadelphia's four home runs Friday and the Phillies won their sixth straight game with a 9-4 decision over Atlanta.

Philadelphia halted Atlanta's seven-game winning streak.

The Phillies hope to all but clinch the National League East title during this three-game series.They emerged from the evening's action leading Florida by eight games in the division. Atlanta fell back into third place, 8 1/2 games behind the Phillies.

Howard ran his home run total to 40 with a two-run shot in the fourth and a solo blast in the sixth.

The Phillies had only a 5-3 lead going into the ninth, but Jimmy Rollins hit a three-run homer in that inning and Ben Francisco added a solo shot to break the game open.

MLB: Pittsburgh 3, Philadelphia 2

Pittsburgh, Aug. 27: A two-run homer in the eighth inning by Garrett Jones Thursday rallied the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 3-2 win over Philadelphia.

The Pirates won twice in the three-game series and have seven victories in their last nine contests.

Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton gave up two runs on five hits with six strikeouts in six innings, but he was in position to be the losing pitcher when he left the game.

Instead, the Pittsburgh comeback gave the victory to Denny Bautista (1-0), who was recalled from Class AAA Indianapolis last weekend. Bautista threw two relief innings, striking out two, and Matt Capps worked the ninth for his 24th save.

MLB: Philadelphia 4, Atlanta 1

Atlanta, Aug. 17: Ryan Howard drove in all of Philadelphia's runs with a solo homer and a three-run shot Sunday to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past Atlanta 4-1.

Phillies' starter J.A. Happ (9-2) sat out a rain delay of 1 hour, 37 minutes, and then went on to carry a three hitter into the eighth inning -- giving up just one run on a solo homer to Matt Diaz.

In 7 2/3 innings, Happ allowed six walks and struck out three. He lowered his ERA to 2.66, best among all rookies in Major League Baseball this season.

Brad Lidge got Omar Infante out on a popup to end the game and get his 23rd save.

Diaz had two of Atlanta's four hits.

Javier Vazquez last (10-8) took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

MLB: Philadelphia 4, Chi. Cubs 3

Chicago, Aug. 12: A home run by Ben Francisco in the top of the 12th Tuesday lifted the Philadelphia Phillies to a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Francisco led off the 12th against Kevin Gregg (4-4) and lined a sinker just over the left field ivy at Wrigley field.

Jimmy Rollins had a two-run homer for the Phillies, who bounced back after being swept by Florida.

J.A. Happ started for the Phillies and allowed two runs on seven hits through six innings. Scott Eyre (2-1) picked up the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Jeff Baker had four hits for the Cubs and starting pitcher Rich Harden gave up just two hits and struck out six in seven innings.

MLB: Philadelphia 7, Colorado 0

Philadelphia, Aug. 5: J.A. Happ threw his second shutout of the season Wednesday and was supported by three home runs in carrying Philadelphia to a 7-0 decision over Colorado.

The victory allowed Happ (8-2) to tie for the lead in victories among major league rookies. He struck out a career-high 10 and gave up four hits.

With Pedro Martinez making his final tune-up start in the minor leagues Wednesday, Happ's place in the Philadelphia rotation is in question and he made a major statement in his bid to keep his current job.

Happ, who threw a five-hit shutout June 27 at Toronto, also had his first career extra base hit when he delivered an eighth-inning double.

MLB: Arizona 4, Philadelphia 0

Phoenix, July 30: Yusmeiro Petit struck out eight over six innings Wednesday and combined with three relievers on a shutout in bringing Arizona a 4-0 win over Philadelphia.

The Phillies had a four-game winning streak halted and failed to finish off a big day in which they obtained defending American League Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee from Cleveland.

Petit (1-5) started for the ninth time this season and finally recorded a victory by allowing four hits and walking just one.

Juan Gutierrez, Jon Rauch and Chad Qualls finished off the shutout .

Justin Upton hit a two-run homer in the first, Chris Snyder contributed a solo shot in the seventh and Upton added an RBI single in the eighth.

MLB: Philadelphia 5, San Diego 1

San Diego -- Unbeaten J.A. Happ threw seven shutout innings and Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer Wednesday, boosting Philadelphia to a 5-1 win over San Diego.

Philadelphia captured its sixth in a row. After winning 10 consecutive games at home, the Padres lost their third straight to the Phillies.

Happ (4-0) allowed four hits and struck out four. He was making his third start of the season after replacing the struggling Chan Ho Park in the rotation. He had made 12 relief appearances before being given the starting role.

Howard hit his home run in the first inning, his 16th of the season, and Pedro Feliz contributed a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in the fourth.

MLB: Philadelphia 5, Washington 4

Philadelphia -- Brad Lidge finished off a clutch effort by the Philadelphia relief corps Friday and Raul Ibanez had two RBI, bringing the Phillies a 5-4 win over Washington.

Philadelphia pounded out 16 hits, but was unable to score again after establishing a 5-1 lead through four innings.

J.A. Happ (3-0) allowed all three Washington runs in 5 1/3 innings, and then turned things over to the bullpen. Four relievers combined to allow three hits and no runs over the final 3 2/3, and Lidge struck out two in the ninth for his 10th save.

Ibanez broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run single in the third and then scored on a triple by Pedro Feliz.
