Ivan Rodriguez

MLB: Washington 6, New York Mets 5

Washington -- Ivan Rodriguez singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth Saturday and the Washington Nationals posted a 6-5 comeback win over the New York Mets.

Trailing 5-3 and facing Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez (2-2), the Nationals rallied for three runs to win it.

Cristian Guzman walked, Willie Harris singled and Ryan Zimmerman also coaxed a walk to load the bases with no outs. Adam Dunn then delivered a double to center field to produce a 5-5 tie.

The Mets intentionally walked Jose Willingham to get to Rodriguez, but the veteran catcher crossed up that strategy by singling to right, scoring Zimmerman for the Nationals' second win in three games against New York.

Nats' catcher Rodriguez placed on DL

Washington -- Washington catcher Ivan Rodriguez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a back strain, the Nationals said Monday.

Rodriguez, 38, injured his lower back while swinging at a pitch during the third inning of Saturday's game. He finished the at bat but was then was pulled from the game and didn't play Sunday.

Rodriguez is hitting .325, which leads all National League catchers. He has one home run and 16 runs batted in over 35 games.

The roster move means Rodriguez will miss the team's just-beginning 10-game road trip and also the expected June 4 major league debut of Washington phenom Stephen Strasburg, The Washington Post pointed out.

He would be eligible to come off the disabled list June 7.
