A powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.9 has jolted Japan's north-eastern coast, triggering a 13-foot tsunami that swept away dozens of cars, boats, and buildings along side the coast.

Camel falls in Nativity re-enactment

Palm Beach, Fla. -- A camel used in a Nativity scene fell into pews at a rehearsal of the First Baptist Church's Christmas show in Florida, but no one was injured, officials said.

Lula Bell, who weighs about 1,000 pounds, may have had a bum knee, forcing her to stumble, a pastor told The Palm Beach (Fla.) Post.

Neither the camel, nor its rider, Alex James, was injured in the accident, and the West Palm Beach church has decided not to use her in its upcoming Christmas production, said worship Pastor Chuck Lewis.

"Everybody's OK," Lewis said about Thursday's incident. "That's the most important thing."

Soccer mayhem injures 250 in Jordan

Amman, Jordan -- Some 250 people were injured in violence after a soccer match in the Jordanian capital of Amman, officials said.

The incident began in the final minutes of a game between the Bedouin-backed al-Feisali team and the Palestinian-based al-Wehdat squad, when fans in the upper decks of the stadium began throwing bottles down into the crowd Friday night, the BBC said.

As the King Abdallah Stadium emptied, police said stone-throwing mobs surged over metal barricades and a stampede ensued, CNN reported.

Deputy Prime Minister Ayman Safadi said at least 25 of the injured were police and security officers and an official inquiry was under way.

Delhomme to start again for Browns

Berea, Ohio -- Veteran quarterback Jake Delhomme is slated to make his third straight start Sunday for the Cleveland Browns at Buffalo.

Delhomme led the Browns (5-7) to wins over Carolina, his former team, and Miami, after taking over for rookie Colt McCoy, who injured an ankle.
McCoy, who was hurt Nov. 21 against Jacksonville, was back at practice at the team's training facility in Berea, Ohio, Friday and could be a backup in Sunday's game.

Delhomme has thrown for 975 yards and three touchdowns since McCoy was sidelined.

Sheriff accidentally shoots own hand

Pocatello, Idaho -- An Idaho sheriff said his "pride is fractured" but he is not otherwise seriously injured after accidentally shooting himself in the hand.

Bannock County Sheriff Lorin Nielsen said he was outside of his Pocatello home admiring a gun he received as a gift from a cousin when he placed his hand on top of the barrel to try putting the hammer back down, KIFI-TV, Idaho Falls, Idaho, reported Thursday.

Nielsen said his thumb slipped and the gun went off, discharging a bullet through the fleshy part of his hand near his little finger. The sheriff said the bullet did not hit any ligaments or tendons.

"I can say I shot the sheriff," Nielsen joked.

He was treated for the injury at a local hospital.

Blackhawks place Hossa on injured reserve

Chicago -- The Chicago Blackhawks said Wednesday forward Marian Hossa has been placed on the injured reserve list.

The high-scoring but oft-injured forward sustained a lower-body injury during a Nov. 29 practice when he collided with teammate Nick Boynton.

The team had said earlier Hossa would likely miss two to three weeks as he recovers from the mishap. It's the second time he has been hobbled this year after also missing seven games with an upper-body injury beginning in late October.

The move comes only days after the Blackhawks said another of its top scorers, Patrick Kane, would be out about three weeks with a lower-body injury.

Timberlake injures leg on film set

Los Angeles -- Production on the thriller "Now" has been temporarily halted after U.S. pop star and actor Justin Timberlake injured his leg doing a stunt, E! News said.

The incident happened last week but there was no word on exactly what Timberlake was doing when he sustained the injury. Cameras are expected to start rolling again sometime next week, a source told E! News.

"Justin Timberlake sustained a muscle injury to his calf on the set of Andrew Niccol's thriller 'Now.' Production has taken a brief hiatus and will resume shortly," representatives for the film said in a statement Monday.

The film co-stars Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde.

Colts' Powers goes on IR

Indianapolis -- Indianapolis Colts starting cornerback Jerraud Powers went on injured reserve with an arm injury, the team said Tuesday.

Powers, 23, had two interceptions, a team-high nine passes defensed and 53 tackles in 10 games this season.

Indianapolis also announced they signed running back Dominic Rhodes, who played seven seasons (2001-06 and 2008) for the Colts. He played for Florida in the UFL this past season.

Rhodes has 3,114 yards and 26 touchdowns rushing, and 1,021 yards with four scores passing in 96 (33 starts) games over eight NFL seasons.

Cardinals' Hall on injured reserve

Tempe, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals rookie quarterback Max Hall went on injured reserve Tuesday and the team signed Richard Bartel as backup insurance.

Hall, who has an ailing left shoulder, startred three of the six games he played in this year. He went 39-of-78 for 370 yards, a touchdown and six interceptions.

Bartel, 27, spent time with the UFL's Sacramento franchise this season after being cut in the pre-season by Washington where he was the No. 3 quarterback part of last season. He hasn't played in an NFL game.
Arizona has struggled to a 3-9 record.

Bieber: Pray for injured man

Berlin -- Teenage Canadian-born pop star Justin Bieber is asking his fans to pray for a man injured during a stunt on the German game show "Wetten Dass."

Bieber, 16, canceled his weekend appearance on the show after Samuel Koch, 23, was severely injured attempting to jump over a moving car while wearing shoes equipped with a suspension system.

"Just want to let my people in Germany know I won't be on 'Wetten Dass' tonight as an accident has taken place and we all don't think it is right to continue," E! News quoted Bieber as saying via Twitter Saturday.

"Please pray for Samuel Koch & his family as we wait and hope for his health and safety. I'm sorry we couldn't perform tonight but some things are more important than putting on a show."

Stunt goes horribly wrong on live TV

Dusseldorf, Germany -- A contestant on a German game show was seriously injured while trying to bounce over five cars on stilts as millions watched live.

Samuel Koch, 23, was knocked out when he bounded over the third moving vehicle and landed on his face Saturday night on the "Wetten, Dass?" ("Bet It?") show, Sky News reported.

Host Thomas Gottschalk then called off the program, and Canadian teen singer Justin Bieber canceled his scheduled appearance.

Koch was taken to the University Hospital of Dusseldorf, where his injuries were reported to be serious.

The popular program shows people attempting unlikely feats as celebrity panelists predict whether they will succeed or not.

Assaulted boxer's husband denied bond

Orlando, Fla. -- The husband of injured boxer Christy Martin has been denied bond in Florida while awaiting further proceedings on attempted murder charges, jail records showed.

An Orange County judge denied bond Saturday to James Martin, who had recovered from apparently self-inflicted stab wounds enough to be moved from an Orlando hospital to the Orange County Jail, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

He faces attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault charges in the Nov. 23 attack of his wife, hailed in the 1980s as the first breakthrough female boxer in the United States. She once fought on the undercard of a Mike Tyson bout and was promoted by Don King.
