Transformers' set for huge IMAX release

Los Angeles -- "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is set to debut in a record 167 U.S. IMAX theaters, its distributors announced Friday.

The sequel to the 2007 blockbuster, "Transformers," is slated to hit IMAX screens and conventional theaters June 24. Directed by Michael Bay, the film DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures features several scenes shot with IMAX cameras.

"The extraordinary level of detail and intensity captured by the IMAX camera creates many exciting possibilities for us with this film," Bay said in a statement. "IMAX's all-encompassing format will take this story to a new level, and I am once again very excited to share The IMAX Experience with 'Transformers' fans around the world."

'Museum' makes $5.4M at IMAX

Los Angeles -- "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian: The IMAX Experience" earned $5.4 million from 160 IMAX theaters in the United States on Memorial Day weekend.

IMAX Corp. and Twentieth Century Fox made the announcement regarding the IMAX box-office take Tuesday.

The IMAX release contributed about 8 percent of the movie's overall holiday weekend domestic gross of $70 million from less than 2 percent of the screens.

The film also opened well internationally, posting $520,000 from IMAX theaters abroad, the companies said in a news release.
