MLB: Colorado 17, Chicago Cubs 2

Denver -- Ian Stewart and Dexter Fowler hit two-run homers during a monstrous 12-run eighth inning Friday and Colorado had 21 hits in blasting the Chicago Cubs 17-2.

Everybody in the Colorado batting order came to the plate twice in the 12th inning, during which the Rockies had 13 hits -- eight for extra bases -- and two walks. All of the runs were scored after two were out.

Stewart ended the inning with a deep fly ball to center to leave the bases loaded. Clint Barmes, Melvin Mora, Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki all had two hits in the inning.

Sean Marshall gave up five of the runs in the eighth while retiring two batters. Andrew Cashner allowed six runs and did not get anybody out.

MLB: Colorado 10, San Diego 8

Denver -- Ian Stewart finished off a six-RBI effort with a grand slam homer in the seventh Friday, rallying the Colorado Rockies to a 10-8 victory over San Diego.

The Rockies opened a three-game series by moving within two games of the Padres for the lead in the National League West.

Colorado had two five-run innings, the first one giving the Rockies a 5-3 advantage in the third and the second one bringing them back from an 8-5 deficit in the seventh.

Stewart hit a two-run homer in the first of the big innings and then delivered the key blow of the game in the seventh off Luke Gregerson (2-5). The Rockies won their fifth straight.

MLB: Colorado 4, Cincinnati 3

Denver -- Ian Stewart hit a leadoff homer in the eighth Monday to give the Colorado Rockies a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Stewart's 23rd home run of the season helped the Rockies win their fourth straight and remain 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West, and two games ahead of the Giants in the NL wild-card chase.
Todd Helton added a pair of RBI for the Rockies.

Ubaldo Jimenez allowed three runs on six hits and three walks in six innings. Rafael Betancourt (3-3) got the win for a perfect eighth inning.

Jonny Gomes hit a two-run homer and Scott Rolen drove in a run for the Reds, who had won 12 of their previous 14 games.

MLB: Colorado 6, San Diego 1

San Diego, July 19: Colorado's Jason Marquis became major league baseball's first 12-game winner of the season Sunday in a 6-1 Rockies win over the San Diego Padres.

Marquis (12-6) worked eight innings, allowing a run and five hits. He also drove in two runs with a double.

Brad Hawpe and Ian Stewart each belted a solo home run for Colorado, which has won eight of its last 11 contests.

Kevin Kouzmanoff produced a sacrifice fly to score a run in San Diego's 13th loss in 16 games this month.

Loser Mat Latos (0-1) yielded two runs and three hits over four innings in his major league debut.

MLB: Arizona 11, Colorado 7

Denver, July 5: Pinch-hitter Chris Young hit a three-run double in a six-run eighth inning for Arizona Saturday in the Diamondbacks' 11-7 win over Colorado.

Stephen Drew had three hits, including a two-run homer in the sixth. The lone hit by Mark Reynolds was a fourth-inning solo homer.

Felipe Lopez had two RBI, Chad Tracy drove in one, and Gerardo Parra added three hits and one RBI for the Diamondbacks, who overcame a 40-minute rain delay and came back from a 4-3 deficit after seven innings to end a three-game losing streak.

Reliever Scott Schoeneweis (1-0) got the win and closer Chad Qualls earned his 14th save.

Colorado's Ian Stewart, Seth Smith and Clint Barmes each had two RBI. Barmes hit a solo homer.

MLB: Colorado 5, Arizona 0

Denver, July 3: Jorge De La Rosa threw eight shutout innings Friday and the Colorado Rockies opened a 10-game homestand with a 5-0 blanking of Arizona.

The Diamondbacks, who committed three errors and had only four hits, have lost eight of their last nine.

De La Rosa (5-7) won his third straight start. He allowed all four Arizona hits, struck out six and walked four.

Joel Peralta and Huston Street finished off the shutout by combining for a perfect ninth.

Ian Stewart put the Rockies in front with a solo homer in the second.

Max Scherzer (5-6) took the loss. He allowed five runs, three of them earned, on six hits in six innings.

The game was delayed 22 minutes at the start by rain.

MLB: Colorado 3, Oakland 1

Oakland, Calif. June 28: Aaron Cook scattered nine hits and allowed one run in eight innings Sunday, leading the Colorado Rockies to a 3-1 inter-league victory over Oakland.

Sunday's win completed a three-game sweep and made Colorado 20-3 in its last 23 contests.

Cook (8-3) was charged with the run after Kurt Suzuki led off the ninth with a single and then scored on Ryan Sweeney's RBI single off closer Huston Street.

Street retired the next three batters in order to earn his 19th save -- his third this weekend against his former teammates.

Carlos Gonzalez had two hits and one RBI while Clint Barmes and Ian Stewart added two hits apiece for the Rockies, who have won four of their last six contests.

Oakland, Calif. June 28: Brad Hawpe hit a home run in the first inning, one of four Colorado homers, as the Colorado Rockies beat Oakland 11-9 Saturday in an inter-league contest.

Ian Stewart, Clint Barmes and Seth Smith each had solo homers for the Rockies, who have won 19 of their last 22 games.

Jorge De La Rosa (4-7) got the win after going six innings and giving up two runs on five hits. Huston Street got his 18th save.

Hawpe, whose homer was the 100th of his career, and Todd Helton each had two RBI. Paul Phillips and Troy Tulowitzki also drove in a run apiece.

Kurt Suzuki, Landon Powell and Bobby Crosby drove in two runs each and Jack Cust and Adam Kennedy each had an RBI for the A's.
