Houston -- The Houston Astros granted contract changes to Manager Brad Mills to will keep him with the team through the 2013 season, the National League team said Friday.
The Astros exercised a contract option on the 2012 season and added an option for the following year to their agreement with Mills.
Mills just completed his first season with the Astros, who went 76-86, just better than the 74-win season of 2009. After a poor start, the team went 59-52 over the last two-thirds of the season.
"We can't say enough about the job that Millsie has done for us," Astros General Manager Ed Wade said in a statement. "He brings every quality that you look for in a successful Major League manager. All that he cares about is helping build a championship club."
