The Reds -- who entered the game in a first-place tie with St. Louis atop the National League Central -- scored both of their runs on a sixth-inning homer by Miguel Cairo.

Reds place P Bailey on disabled list

Cincinnati -- Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Homer Bailey has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation, the team said Monday.

Bailey was removed after lasting only 2 1/3 innings in Sunday's start against Cleveland, complaining of shoulder tightness. He was charged with three runs on four hits and a walk in the brief outing.

Bailey has compiled a 1-2 record and 5.51 ERA in nine starts this season, registering 41 strikeouts and 21 walks in 50 2/3 innings.

St. Louis, Aug. 13: Albert Pujols boosted his home run total to a major-league leading 38 with his second in as many games Wednesday, helping boost St. Louis past Cincinnati 5-2.

The Cardinals won for the fifth time in six outings and increased their lead over the Chicago Cubs to four games in the National League Central.
