Report: Turkoglu turns down Portland offer

Portland, Ore. July 4: The Oregonian newspaper reported Friday that forward Hedo Turkoglu, who earlier in the day appeared headed to Portland, had broken off talks with the team.

Turkoglu, 30, has spent the last five seasons with Orlando, but last week opted out of the final year of a contract that would have paid him $7.3 million.

There were reports Friday that Turkoglu had agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract with the Trail Blazers. The Oregonian said later, however, that Turkoglu had rejected the offer.

Turkoglu averaged 16.8 points in 77 games with Orlando last season and helped the Magic into the NBA Finals.

NBA: LA Lakers 99, Orlando 91

Orlando, June 12: Derek Fisher saved the game in regulation and hit the decisive shot in overtime Thursday, lifting the Los Angels Lakers to a 99-91 win over Orlando.

The Lakers moved to the brink of the NBA championship by taking a 3-1 lead in the final series, winning a game that seemed all but lost late in the fourth quarter. Los Angeles can claim the crown on Orlando's home floor Sunday in Game 5.

Los Angeles overcame a 12-point deficit in the second half, fell behind by five with 95 seconds to go and seemed hopelessly beaten when Orlando's Dwight Howard went to the free throw line with 11 seconds to go and the Magic owning a three-point advantage.
