Harley-Davidson workers ratify contracts

Milwaukee -- Union members at Harley-Davidson in Milwaukee said they approved three seven-year contracts that will allow for job cuts, but keep the company from moving.

Harley-Davidson had threatened to move to an area where it could build motorcycles without union employees had the contracts not been ratified. The new contracts allow the company to reduce its workforce by 325 employees at two Wisconsin plants -- Menomonee Falls and Tomahawk -- and use non-union help during periods of high demand or to cover for union workers on vacation, The Business Journal of Milwaukee reported Tuesday.

"Change is never easy and we have asked our employees to make difficult decisions.

Kirk said the United States has sought greater access to financial services, goods and services areas, The Hindu newspaper reported. He said the United States would like to see improvement and openness in the investment environment for U.S. businesses in India.
