Mota, Fielder fined by MLB

New York, Aug. 6: Major League Baseball announced Thursday fines had been levied on Milwaukee first baseman Prince Fielder and Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Guillermo Mota.

Neither player, however, will be suspended for their roles in a series of incidents during and after a Dodgers-Brewers game Tuesday.

Mota hit Fielder with a pitch on the right leg with two out in the ninth inning of a game the Dodgers won 17-4. The move appeared to be in retaliation for Chris Smith hitting Los Angeles star Manny Ramirez in the seventh.

Mota was ejected from the game and after the contest, Fielder joined a number of teammates in attempting to enter the Los Angeles clubhouse.

MLB: Milwaukee 4, Los Angeles Dodgers 0

Los Angeles, Aug. 6: Braden Looper went a strong 6 2/3 innings and Ryan Braun had a key two-run double Wednesday to lead the Milwaukee past the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-1.

Prior to the game, Major League Baseball announced it would investigate an incident at Dodger Stadium Tuesday night in which Brewers' slugger Prince Fielder had to be restrained by stadium security after he tried to get into the Dodgers clubhouse after the game. Fielder was upset Guillermo Mota had hit him with a pitch in the ninth inning of a lopsided LA victory.

Fielder went 0-for-5 Wednesday but he drove in a run for the Brewers who took two out of three to win their first series since beating the Mets twice in a three-game set June 29-July 1.

Report: Baseball investigating incident

Los Angeles, Aug. 5: Major League Baseball officials are investigating an incident involving Milwaukee first baseman Prince Fielder, the Los Angeles Times said.

The burly first baseman had to be restrained by a security official and a group of teammates following Tuesday's 17-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He allegedly tried to force his way into the Dodgers clubhouse because he was fuming about being hit by Los Angeles reliever Guillermo Mota with a pitch in the top of the ninth and the Dodgers holding the 13-run lead, the report said.

MLB spokesman Pat Courtney told the newspaper that Bob Watson, the sport's chief disciplinarian, was looking into the matter.

Broxton out of All-Star Game with bad toe

Milwaukee, July 11: Los Angeles Dodgers closer Jonathan Broxton will miss next week's All-Star Game because of a toe injury, Manager Joe Torre said.

The burly right-hander has been told that he will not pitch again until at least after the All-Star break because of an irritated nerve on the big toe of his right foot. Torre said the decision was made before Saturday's contest at Milwaukee, which the Brewers won 6-3.

He said third base coach Larry Bowa spotted the 6-foot-4 inch, 300-pounder limping noticeably after appearing in Friday's 10-inning, 12-8 victory.

"We interrogated him (Friday) night and finally got it out of him," Torre said. "It's been bothering him since Sunday, so he's not going to be available for us."
