Biffle wins Kansas; Johnson in points lead

Kansas City, Kan. -- Greg Biffle wrested the lead with 60 laps remaining Sunday and went on to claim the Price Chopper 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Biffle kept his Sprint Cup Series championship hopes alive with the emphatic victory, while Jimmie Johnson finished second to take over the circuit's points lead from Denny Hamlin.

Biffle grabbed the lead for a second time with less than 30 laps to go after the final round of pit stops under green, finishing 7.6 seconds ahead of Johnson for his second victory of the season and the 16th of his Sprint Cup career.

Hamlin fell into second in the points standings after his 12th-place finish.

Kevin Harvick claimed third place Sunday, followed by Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon.

Biffle ends drought with Pocono victory

Long Pond-- Greg Biffle won for the first time in nearly two years Sunday, taking the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.

Biffle laid back for most of the race but made a move in the late going, grabbing the lead from Sam Hornish Jr. just after the final restart with 21 laps left.

He went on to finish 3.5 seconds ahead of second-place Tony Stewart, collecting his 15th career Sprint Cup win but his first in 64 races dating to since September 2008 at Dover.

Carl Edwards came in third and Sprint Cup points leader Kevin Harvick was fourth.

Denny Hamlin, the two-time defending Pocono winner, ended up in fifth place and Hornish fell to 11th.

Martin wins pole in Bristol

Bristol, Tenn. Aug. 21: Mark Martin won the ninth pole of his career at Bristol Motor Speedway Friday and will start out front in for Saturday's Sharpie 500.

Martin turned in a lap of 124.484 miles per hour, allowing him to tie Cale Yarborough for the most poles won at the track. Martin also won the pole here in March.

After finishing 31st last Sunday at Michigan, Martin dropped to 12th in the points race, the last position that qualifies for the Sprint Cup playoff chase. He is only 12 points in front of Brian Vickers, the Michigan winner.

Greg Biffle finished second to Martin in qualifying by just .02 of a second.

Rookie Scott Speed was third and Dave Blaney was fourth.

Points leader Tony Stewart will start 30th.

Johnson wins pole at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, N.Y. Aug. 7: Three-time defending Sprint Cup series champion Jimmie Johnson won his first pole of the year Friday for Sunday's race at Watkins Glen International.

Johnson covered the 2.45-mile, 11-turn road course in 71.340 seconds (123.633 mph). It was his first pole victory since last November and his first ever in 16 tries on a road course.

"We did all the right things today," Johnson said. "The car could have been a little bit better. For us, it was a little bit adventurous from time to time in qualifying trim, but I guess we had fewer problems than everybody else in putting in really good laps."

Kurt Busch was second-quickest Friday, just .008 seconds behind Johnson.

Mark Martin wins Michigan Spint Cup race

Brooklyn, Mich. June 14: Mark Martin won Sunday's Sprint Cup LifeLock 400 auto race at Brooklyn, Mich., with his car running on fumes.

The 50-year-old Martin led only on the last lap but claimed his third victory this season.

Like both Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle, Martin ran out of fuel late in the race, but was able to capture his fifth career win at the two-mile Michigan International Speedway.

"I went for the points," he said after his victory. "I thought those guys were running too hard for us to save gas."

Martin won for the 38th time in his Sprint Cup career.

Jeff Gordon finished second, Denny Hamlin third, Carl Edwards fourth and Biffle coasted home to fifth place.
