Philadelphia, Oct. 20: Jimmy Rollins drove a two-run double to deep right with two out in the ninth Monday, giving Philadelphia a dramatic 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers

The Phillies took a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship Series and will try to earn their second straight World Series trip Wednesday when they host Game 5.

Los Angeles came back from an early 2-0 deficit and seemed ready to draw even in the series when George Sherrill and Jonathan Broxton produced clutch pitching to get out of a jam in the eighth inning.

Broxton, who got the final out in the eighth, retired Raul Ibanez on a grounder to second to open the ninth and then ran into trouble.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers 5, Atlanta 0

Atlanta, July 31: Jason Schmidt combined with three relievers on a three-hitter Friday and Andre Ethier drove in four runs, carrying the Los Angeles Dodgers past Atlanta 5-0.

After losing three games in a row for the first time all season, the Dodgers have bounced back with two straight wins.

Schmidt (2-1), trying to come back from two shoulder operations that have sidelined him most of the last three seasons, allowed only one hit through six innings. He walked five, however, and put two base runners on in three different frames.

Dodgers acquire reliever George Sherrill

Los Angeles, July 30: The Los Angeles Dodgers strengthened their bullpen Thursday by acquiring reliever George Sherrill from the Baltimore Orioles.

In return, they sent the Orioles third baseman Josh Bell and right-hander Steve Johnson, both future prospects.

Sherrill, 32, had been Baltimore's closer this season and had amassed 20 saves (three blown) in 42 appearances (41 1/3 innings).

He is eligible for salary arbitration next season.

"I'm not really surprised because everybody's been talking about it for the longest time," the southpaw told MLB.com Thursday.

MLB: Baltimore 5, Seattle 3

Seattle, July 8: Ty Wigginton put Baltimore in front with a two-run single during a five-run ninth inning Wednesday, rallying the Orioles to a 5-3 victory over Seattle.

Seattle's David Aardsma (2-3) came on in the ninth to protect a 3-0 advantage and gave up the lead before he could record an out. Two errors by Mariners second baseman Jose Lopez made two of the ninth-inning runs unearned.

Melvin Mora opened the inning with a double, Gregg Zaun walked and Oscar Salazar singled to load the bases.

Adam Jones then drove in a run with an infield single and Nick Markakis reached on a costly fielding error by Lopez. That miscue accounted for the second run of the inning and kept the bases loaded.

MLB: Baltimore 6, Los Angeles Angels 4

Anaheim, Calif. July 4: Aubrey Huff helped stake Baltimore to an early lead with a three-run homer Friday and the Orioles held off the Los Angeles Angels 6-4.

The Angels lost for the third time in four games and slipped back into a tie for first place with Texas in the American League West.

Luke Scott delivered a two-run double in the first and Huff blasted his homer in the third to give the Orioles a 5-0 advantage.

An RBI single by Nick Markakis in the fourth increased the lead to 6-0 and the Orioles spent the rest of the game holding on against the potent Los Angeles lineup.

MLB: Baltimore 11, Boston 10

Baltimore, July 1: The Baltimore Orioles scored five runs in both the seventh and eighth innings Tuesday to overcome a nine-run deficit to rally past the Boston Red Sox 11-10.

Oscar Salazar hit a three-run, pinch-hit homer for the Orioles and Felix Pie added a pair of RBI.

Kevin Youklis and Dustin Pedroia had three RBI apiece for the Red Sox in John Smoltz's second start of the season. Smoltz gave up one run on three hits in a start limited to four innings by a rain delay of 1 hour, 11 minutes.

Boston came out strong with a pair of runs in both the first and second innings.

The Red Sox added five runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-1 lead and were up 10-1 after seven, Baltimore roared back with five runs, including the three-run shot by Salazar.

MLB: Baltimore 6, N.Y. Mets 4

Baltimore, June 17: Aubrey Huff put Baltimore in front with a two-run homer in the seventh inning Wednesday and the Orioles held on to down the New York Mets 6-4.

The Mets scored twice in the sixth to tie the score, but Baltimore produced the decisive runs one inning later against reliever Pedro Feliciano (2-2).

Bobby Parnell opened the seventh and struck out Adam Jones. Feliciano then came on and gave up a single to Nick Markakis before surrendering Huff's ninth homer of the season. Huff also singled in a run in the first and Matt Wieters contributed a two-run homer in the second.

Jim Johnson (3-3), the fourth Baltimore pitcher, worked two innings to get the inter-league win. George Sherrill picked up his 13th save.
