Fabian Espindola

MLS: Philadelphia 1, Salt Lake 1 (tie)

Chester, Pa. -- Fabian Espindola took advantage of a defensive lapse in the 18th minute to score a goal Wednesday that lifted Real Salt Lake into 1-1 tie with Philadelphia.

Philadelphia recorded its second straight road draw, but missed out on a chance at victory because of a miscue deep in its own end of the field.

The Union had taken the lead in the 8th minute on a goal by Danny Mwanga and it took Salt Lake just 10 minutes to produce the equalizer.

Philadelphia defender Juan Diego Gonzalez failed on a clearing attempt just outside the penalty area and Espindola quickly collected the ball. He avoided a defender and put one past Chris Seitz.

Salt Lake is 10-4-6 and moved within four points of Los Angeles for first place in the Western Conference.

MLS: Real Salt Lake 2, New York 0

Sandy, Utah, Oct. 15: Andy Williams broke a tie in the 80th minute Wednesday and Real Salt Lake improved its playoff chances by downing New York 2-0.

Salt Lake (10-11-7) moved past Toronto, D.C. United and FC Dallas with the victory and its 37 points leaves it just one point behind New England for the final MLS post-season berth.

New York, owner of the worst record in the league, has won just four times in 29 games.

MLS: Real Salt Lake 4, Chivas USA 0

Sandy, Utah Aug. 26: Robbie Findley came off the bench to score two second-half goals Wednesday and Real Salt Lake blasted Chivas USA 4-0.

Salt Lake (8-9-6) moved within three points of Chivas and Seattle for third place in the Western Conference. Chivas (10-8-3) has lost six of its last eight games.

Pablo Campos scored in the 43rd minute and it remained a 1-0 game until Salt Lake broke things open in the last quarter of an hour. Fabian Espindola produced a goal with 15 minutes to go before Findley delivered his two goals in the final 5 minutes.

Findley has scored 10 goals this season.

MLS: Real Salt Lake 1, San Jose 1

Sandy, Utah July 4: Chris Leach put the ball into his own goal in the first minute of extra time Friday, allowing Real Salt Lake to escape with a 1-1 tie against San Jose.

San Jose (3-8-4) appeared headed for its first two-game winning streak of the season before Leach's mishap. Salt Lake played with just 10 men for the final 20 minutes after Fabian Espindola was ejected for what was deemed to be a serious foul.

Arturo Alvarez gave San Jose a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute with his fifth goal of the season.
