ESPN: Redskins give McNabb rich extension

Washington -- The Washington Redskins have locked up quarterback Donovan McNabb for five years at a cost of up to $88 million, ESPN reported Monday.

The sports network said in a story posted on its Web site that $40 million would be guaranteed with the higher amount possible if McNabb reaches incentive levels. McNabb, who turns 34 Nov. 25, came to the Redskins this season after 11 years with Philadelphia.

The Washington Post reported McNabb's agent had confirmed the extension had been reached.

"We've been working on this for a while now, and we're obviously glad to get it done," Fletcher Smith told the newspaper. "Donovan's very happy about the situation because this is where he wanted to be all along."

The league announced Beebe had signed through 2015. The deal replaces one that was set to expire in 2012.

"Dan Beebe has been an outstanding leader for the Big 12 Conference during very challenging times, including our transition to 10 teams," Big 12 Conference Board of Directors chairman and University of Missouri Chancellor Dr. Brady Deaton said. "We are very pleased that we now have another key piece of this team's core under contract for the next four seasons," he said.

Sources: Brady set to sign $77M extension

Foxborough, Mass. -- New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is close to signing a four-year, $77 million contract extension offer, sources told the Boston Herald Tuesday.

The newspaper, quoting sources close to the negotiations, said Brady has yet to formally agree to the deal but could do so within 24 hours.

The $19.3 million annually would reportedly be in addition to the $6.5 million he's set to earn this season as the Patriots' signal-caller.

The three-time Super Bowl winner has never begun a season while in the final year of contract and has always preferred to get extensions signed before the start of the regular schedule, the Herald noted.

The deal includes a $1 million signing bonus and eliminates Hart's final year of arbitration eligibility.
