MLB: LA Angels 8, Seattle 3

Anaheim, Calif. -- Erick Aybar and Bobby Abreu drove in three runs each Thursday and the Los Angeles Angels pounded out 16 hits in an 8-3 win over Seattle.

The Angels lost eight of their last 10 games prior to the All-Star break, but they fought off a comeback bid by the Mariners to stay within 4 1/2 games of Texas for the lead in the American League West.

Abreu doubled in a run in the first and Aybar had a two-run single during a three-run second to give the Angels a 4-0 lead.

Seattle climbed back within one on Ichiro Suzuki's three-run double in the fifth, but Joel Pineiro settled down after that and got solid relief help.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 8, Toronto 3

Anaheim, Calif. -- Bobby Abreu and Erick Aybar had two RBI apiece Tuesday to back up Ervin Santana's four-hitter in the Los Angeles Angels 8-3 victory over Toronto.

Santana (4-3) went the distance for his second complete game of the season, giving up three runs -- all on solo home runs -- and striking out 10.

Jose Bautista, Aaron Hill and Jeremy Reed homered for the Blue Jays, who lost for the fourth time in their last six games.

Ricky Romero (4-2) had an eventful 5 1/3-inning start in which he gave up seven runs on 11 hits and also struck out eight.

MLB: LA Angels 5, N.Y. Yankees 4

Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- A game-winning double by Jeff Mathis in the 11th inning Monday gave the Los Angeles Angels a 5-4 win over the New York Yankees and new hope in the ALCS.

Los Angeles fought back from a 3-0 deficit to take the lead, saw the Yankees tie it in the eighth and then failed to take advantage of a bases-loaded situation in the 10th.

The Angels finally prevailed in the 11th, getting a two-out single by Howie Kendrick off Alfredo Aceves and a double by Mathis that bounced off the left-field wall as Mathis dashed around the bases with the winning run.

MLB: LA Angels 4, Boston 1

Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 10: An RBI single by Maicer Izturis in the seventh put Los Angeles in front Friday and the Angels took control of their playoff series with a 4-1 win over Boston.

The Angels got to John Beckett for three runs in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and grab a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five American League Division Series.

Los Angeles will try to win the series Sunday when the action moves to Boston.

Beckett brought a 7-2 career post-season record into the game and limited the Angels to a run on four hits through six innings in a duel with Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver.

Vladimir Guerrero drew a walk off Becket to start the big Los Angeles seventh and Howie Kendrick came on to run for Guerrero.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 5, Boston 0

Anaheim, Calif., Oct. 9: John Lackey allowed four hits over 7 1/3 innings Thursday and Torii Hunter hit a three-run homer to give the Los Angeles Angels a 5-0 playoff win over Boston.

It was only the second victory for the Angels over the Red Sox in their last 14 post-season meetings.

In the opening game of their American League Division Series, Lackey collected his first post-season victory in seven years. He walked just one batter, struck out four and threw 114 pitches before being relieved by Darren Oliver with one out in the eighth and a runner on second base.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 11, Texas 0

Anaheim, Calif., Sept. 29: Ervin Santana pitched a shutout and Kendry Morales had a home run and three RBI Monday when the Los Angeles Angels beat Texas 11-0 to clinch the AL West title.

Santana (8-8) went the distance, scattering seven hits, walking one and striking out three for the Angels, who won their third straight division title.

Morales drove in two runs with his 33rd home run of the season in the first inning, when the Angels scored three runs. Vladimir Guerrero, Maicer Izturis and Erick Aybar each drove in two runs and Bobby Abreu and Torii Hunter each drove in one for the Angels, who came into the four-game series with the Rangers needing one victory to clinch the division crown.

MLB: Boston 4, LA Angels 1

Boston, Sept. 16: Daisuke Matsuzaka returned to the mound for the first time in three months Tuesday to pitch Boston to a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Matsuzaka (2-5), in his first start since June 19, worked six-plus innings of three-hit, shutout ball for his first victory since June 2. The outing was the longest of the season for Matsuzaka, who had been out with a shoulder injury.

David Ortiz had a homer and two RBI for the Red Sox, who have won five in a row. Jason Bay also drove in a run for Boston, which increased its lead in the AL wild-card race to five games over Texas.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 3, Seattle 0

Anaheim, Calif. Sept. 11: John Lackey threw his first shutout in two years Thursday -- his fourth against Seattle -- carrying the Los Angeles Angels to a 3-0 victory over the Mariners.

Lackey (10-7) struck out seven, gave up five hits and threw 111 pitches. It was the 14th complete game and eighth shutout in Lackey's eight-year career, all of it spent with the Angels.

Los Angeles won its third straight and moved five games in front of the idle Texas Rangers in the race for the American League West pennant.

Torii Hunter gave the Angels the lead in the fourth with a two-run homer and Erick Aybar added an RBI double in the seventh.

Ryan Rowland-Smith (3-3) gave up all three runs on 10 hits over seven innings to take the loss.

MLB: LA Angels 3, Seattle 2

Anaheim, Calif. Sept. 9: Erick Aybar drove in the winning run in the 10th inning for the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday in their 3-2 victory over Seattle.

Aybar singled off of Miguel Batista (6-4) to drive in Bobby Abreu, who opened the inning with a single and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out.

The first-place Angels lead Texas in the American League West by 4 ½ games.
Abreu had two hits and an RBI for Los Angeles.

Matt Palmer (10-1) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless 10th. LA starter Scott Kazmir allowed one run in seven innings.

Franklin Gutierrez had a solo home run in the first for the visiting Mariners and Mike Sweeney's solo homer in the ninth tied the game 3-3.

MLB: LA Angels 2, Kansas City 1 (11 inn.)

Kansas -- Erick Aybar's RBI single in the 11th inning Saturday pushed the Los Angeles Angels past Kansas City 2-1.

Aybar's third hit snapped a 1-1 tie with one out in the top of the 11th.

Torii Hunter drove in the Angels' other run. He and Kendry Morales each had two hits for the Angels, who have won four of six.

The winner was Kevin Jepsen (5-3).

Closer Brian Fuentes escaped an 11th-inning jam to record his 39th save.

Starter John Lackey surrendered a run and six hits in nine innings.

Kansas City's lone run scored on Billy Butler's first-inning single.

He had two of the seven hits for the Royals, who have lost three straight and four of five.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 3, Cleveland 0

Cleveland, Aug. 19: Jered Weaver bounced back from his worst outing of the season to throw a seven-hit shutout Wednesday, giving the Los Angeles Angels a 3-0 win over Cleveland.

It was the second shutout and fourth complete game of Weaver's four-year career.
The Angels, who began action Wednesday with a 5 ½-game lead over Texas in the American League West, won their fifth straight.

Weaver (13-4) survived only 3 1/3 innings in his previous start against Baltimore Friday, giving up eight earned runs, nine hits and four walks. It was his shortest outing in more than a year.

Although he allowed the Indians seven hits, Cleveland did not have more than one runner on base in any inning.

MLB: LA Angels 11, Minnesota 5

Minneapolis, July 31: Erick Aybar's four-pitch walk started a streak of eight straight Los Angeles base runners in the 11th inning Friday, propelling the Angels past Minnesota 11-5.

The powerful Los Angeles offense pounded out 19 hits and rallied the Angels from a 5-2 deficit in the late innings.

Mike Napoli's solo homer in the eighth tied the score at 5-5 and Los Angeles then produced six singles in the 11th -- five of them coming consecutively.

Bobby Keppel (0-1), who had not allowed a run in 11 1/3 innings since being called up from Class AAA, walked Aybar and then gave up a base hit to Gary Matthews and an RBI infield single to Howie Kendrick.
