BK workers fired for alleged profane note

Sacramento -- Fast food chain Burger King said an employee and a manager from a California location are being fired after a profane note was written on a customer's receipt.

Denise Wilson, a spokeswoman for the company, apologized to Francisco Perez after his receipt from the Sacramento location bore a profane four-letter word beginning with "f," KCRA-TV, Sacramento, reported Thursday.

"Burger King Corp. and the franchisee that owns and operates this restaurant deeply regret that this incident occurred," Wilson said in a statement. "The franchisee has taken immediate corrective action and both the manager and employee are being terminated. The franchisee will be reaching out to the guest directly."

Selena 'Performances' DVD on its way

Hollywood -- A DVD featuring rare footage of U.S. singer Selena performing before she was killed by an employee in 1995 is set for release, Capitol Latin/EMI said Monday.

"Selena: Performances" is scheduled to go on sale Nov. 22.

"Fifteen years after her tragic and untimely death at the age of 23, Selena's musical legacy will be commemorated by Capitol Latin/EMI this Thanksgiving, in partnership with her family's company, Q-Productions," the record label said in a news release Monday. "Featuring nine previously unreleased performances in 5.1 and DTS Surround Sound, plus interview clips from appearances 'The Queen of Tex Mex' made on 'The Johnny Canales Show' in 1993 and 1994, the new DVD spotlights Selena's huge musical talents and superstar charisma."

Novartis to expand in Cambridge, Mass.

Cambridge, Mass. -- Swiss pharmaceutical firm Novartis AG said it would spend $600 million on its operations in Massachusetts, adding as many as 300 employees.

The drug firm already has 2,300 research and administrative personnel in Cambridge, The Boston Globe reported Wednesday. As such, it is the largest employer in the city, the newspaper said.

"People have found this to be one of the most exciting places to do this work in the world," said Mark Fishman, Novartis' president of Institutes for Biomedical Research.

Cubs owner 'fired' on TV's 'Boss'

Chiacgo -- Todd Ricketts, an owner of the Chicago Cubs, gets fired as a maintenance employee on an upcoming episode of the reality show "Undercover Boss," CBS said.

Ricketts "goes undercover within one of baseball's most famous franchises and fights for the chance to redeem himself after being let go on the second day. Also, when a friend recognizes him parking cars, the boss panics that his cover has been blown," the network said in a news release Tuesday.

The show challenges business owners and managers to try working at lower-level jobs in their own companies.

Ricketts' episode is to air Nov. 7.
