San Francisco -- Matt Cain gave up two runs in 6 1/3 innings Friday and won his fourth straight decision, helping bring the San Francisco Giants a 4-2 victory over St. Louis.
The Cardinals lost for the first time in three games and fell back into a tie with Milwaukee atop the National League Central.
Cain (6-1) struck out five and allowed six hits before leaving with one on and one out in the seventh.
St. Louis did not manage a single base runner against three relievers, with Brian Wilson working the ninth for his 11th save.
Pablo Sandoval drove in the first two San Francisco runs with a first-inning single and the Giants scored twice more in the fourth when Fred Lewis tripled in a run. Lewis then came in on a single by Emmanuel Burriss.
