NHL: Phoenix 4, Nashville 3

Glendale, Ariz. -- Ed Jovanovski finished his first career hat trick by scoring the winning goal 5:38 into the third period Wednesday to give Phoenix a 4-3 victory over Nashville.

The Coyotes trailed by a goal heading into the third but Lee Stempniak tied it on the power play and Jovanovski completed his big night 75 seconds later.

Jovanovski opened the scoring 1:08 into the contest and he forged a 2-2 tie with a slapshot 1:09 into the second.

They were the first three goals of the seasons for Jovanovski, who is in his 15th NHL season.

Ilya Bryzgalov got the win with 28 saves in the second Phoenix victory in six games.

Pekka Rinne stopped 28-of-32 shots in the loss. The Predators have dropped three straight.

NHL: Colorado 4, Phoenix 1

Denver -- Milan Hejduk led the Colorado Avalanche over the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 Wednesday, scoring two goals and adding an assist.

Hejduk opened the scoring 57 seconds into the first period and ended it with 24 seconds remaining in the game.

Marek Svatos and David Jones got the other goals and Paul Stastny contributed three assists for the Western Conference-leading Avalanche.

Peter Budaj made 28 saves in his first start this season.

Ed Jovanovski scored a power-play goal and Ilya Bryzgalov blocked 25 shots for the Coyotes.

NHL: Phoenix 3, St. Louis 2 (OT)

Phoenix, Oct. 16: Ed Jovanovski scored with 1:23 remaining in overtime Thursday, giving Phoenix a 3-2 victory over St. Louis.

The Coyotes had not been in front all night until Jovanovski delivered an unassisted goal, his second of the season.

Phoenix, which went through a tumultuous summer in which the future home of the franchise was in doubt, won for the fourth time in six games this season. Only Chicago and Colorado have more wins in the Western Conference.

St. Louis scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead, but Scottie Upshall lifted Phoenix into a tie with a wrist shot 8:27 into the third.

It remained a 2-2 tie until Phoenix handed the Blues their first overtime loss of the season.
