Link found between ED and coronary disease

New York -- U.S. medical scientists say they have discovered a link between erectile dysfunction and coronary artery calcification.

The scientists at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York said their study -- the largest to date involving the evaluation of ED and coronary artery disease -- determined men with ED are at a significantly increased risk of high coronary artery calcification scores, a known predictor of future cardiovascular events.

The scientists said they found men with ED had a 54 percent greater likelihood of having a high-risk coronary artery calcification score than men without ED. The increased risk was similar to that of patients with a history of hypertension and smoking.

Boston, October 14-- The minimally invasive prostate surgery, which has hitherto been advertised as safer than the traditional more invasive techniques, has now been linked to a higher risk of incontinence and erectile dysfunction.
