MLB: Tampa Bay 5, N.Y. Yankees 3

St.Petersburg, Oct. 4 -- Dioner Navarro's two-run homer Saturday keyed Tampa Bay's 5-3 win over the New York Yankees.

The homer, Navarro's eighth this season, gave Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second.

Jason Bartlett had two hits and one RBI.

Two runs scored on a fifth-inning throwing error by reliever Alfredo Aceves, while Akinori Iwamura added two hits for the Rays, who can complete a three-game sweep by winning Sunday's finale.

The winner was starter Jeff Niemann (13-6).

Grant Balfour recorded his fourth save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

New York's Jerry Hairston Jr., Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira all hit RBI singles.

MLB: Seattle 11, Tampa Bay 2

Seattle, Aug. 9: Russell Branyan hit a grand slam Sunday, capping the Seattle Mariners' 11-2 rout of Tampa Bay.

Seattle led 7-2 when Branyan's only hit of the game -- his 26th homer of the season -- produced the game's final runs with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

Franklin Gutierrez had three hits, including a two-run homer. Jose Lopez had three hits and one RBI, Mike Sweeney and Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and one RBI each, Michael Saunders had one RBI and Adrian Beltre added two hits for the Mariners, who won twice in the three-game series.

Winner Ryan Rowland-Smith (2-1) yielded two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings with four walks and six strikeouts.

MLB: Tampa Bay 6, N.Y. Yankees 2

St. Petersburg, Fla. July 28: B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford each had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored Tuesday to help the Tampa Bay Rays beat the New York Yankees 6-2.

Scott Kazmir (5-6) gave up one run on five hits in seven-plus innings to earn the win for the Rays.

Evan Longoria had a solo homer, and Dioner Navarro and Jason Bartlett each had an RBI for Tampa Bay.

Losing pitcher CC Sabathia (10-7) allowed six runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Hideki Matsui had two RBI for the Yankees, who have won 10 of their last 12 games.

MLB: Tampa Bay 3, Chicago White Sox 2

Chicago, July 21: Carlos Pena drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly Tuesday to give Tampa Bay a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Bobby Jenks's (2-3) third blown save of the season deprived starter Clayton Richard of a victory despite an outstanding outing. Richarg gave up one run on four hits and two walks through eight innings for Chicago.

Fellow rookie pitcher Jeff Niemann (9-4) allowed two runs on eight hits in eight innings for Tampa Bay, which has won four of its last five games.

Jason Bartlett and Dioner Navarro each had two hits and a run for the Rays, and Gordon Beckham was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Chicago.

MLB: Texas 12, Tampa Bay 4

Arlington, Texas July 4: Andruw Jones hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBI and Michael Young drove in three Saturday in the Texas Rangers' 12-4 rout of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jones's 10th homer this season gave Texas a 3-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the first. He added an RBI double in the sixth.

Nelson Cruz had three hits, one a fifth-inning solo homer, and two RBI. Taylor Teagarden added two hits and two RBI and Marlon Byrd scored three times for the Rangers, who have won four straight and can sweep the series Sunday.

Starter Derek Holland (2-5) got the win despite giving up four runs on seven hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Dioner Navarro led Tampa Bay with two hits -- one a three-run homer in the fifth.

MLB: Tampa Bay 4, Washington 3

St. Petersburg, Fla. June 13: Gabe Kapler's pinch homer in the eighth inning Friday lifted the Tampa Bay Rays to a 4-3 inter-league win over the Washington Nationals.

Kapler, batting for Gabe Gross, hit his second homer this season to snap a 3-3 tie with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to cap Tampa Bay's comeback from a 3-0 first-inning deficit.

Kapler got lucky after Washington first baseman Nick Johnson dropped his foul pop and he hit the next offering from losing pitcher Ron Villone (3-2) into the left center field seats.

Dioner Navarro led Tampa Bay with two hits and one RBI. Gross had one RBI and five others had one hit for the Rays, who have won three in a row and seven of their last 10 games.

The winner was J.P. Howell (2-2).
