Mets promote rookie 1B Ike Davis

New York -- Prized first base prospect Ike Davis has been called up to the struggling New York Mets, team officials said Monday.

The Mets said they have picked up Davis' contract from Triple-A Buffalo. He was in the lineup, batting sixth, for Monday's nationally televised game against the Chicago Cubs -- and singled in his first at-bat.

Davis, 23, was hitting .364 with two home runs, three doubles and four RBI in 10 games at Buffalo this season. He was selected 18th overall by New York in the 2008 rookie draft out of Arizona State.

Davis made a big impression in spring training last month, batting .480 with three homers, 10 RBI and seven runs scored in 12 games with New York.
