MLS: Los Angeles 2, FC Dallas 1

Carson, Calif. -- David Beckham and Juninho scored and the Los Angeles Galaxy edged FC Dallas 2-1 Sunday, claiming the league's best record in the final game of the season.

With the victory, the Galaxy raised their record to 18-7-5 to win the Supporters' Shield, indicative of the MLS' best regular-season record. Their 59 points gave them sole possession of the top spot in the league-wide standings, edging Real Salt Lake by three points.

After spotting Dallas a 1-0 lead on a header by Atiba Harris in the first half, Los Angeles answered at the 33-minute mark when Landon Donovan entered the penalty area unguarded and found Beckham, who launched a 22-footer into the net.

Juninho got the game-winner in the 46th minute on a shot from the top of the area.

Beckham unsure of loan to Europe this year

Carson, Calif. -- David Beckham, recently returned to MLS play from an Achilles tendon injury, said he doesn't expect to be loaned this season to a European soccer team.

Beckham, 35, played the last two seasons for AC Milan as he tried to work his way back onto the English national team. However, a torn Achilles tendon in March ended his hopes of playing in the 2010 World Cup.

He returned to the lineup of the MLS Los Angeles Galaxy, making two appearances as a substitute before playing an entire game last Friday.

He told fifa.com that he was focusing on "getting my full fitness back."

Asked if he would return to Europe to play this season he said, "I don't think so."

Beckham presents England's 2018 cup bid

Zurich -- England's soccer association employed star player David Beckham Friday to help present the country's bid to host the 2018 World Cup.

Beckham headed a delegation of British soccer executives in presenting England's pitch to FIFA, the International Federation of Association Football, in Zurich, Switzerland.

"Football runs through our veins," The Times of London quoted Beckham as saying. "We are all brought up on it. On behalf of our team, the delegation and our fans, we present you with our bid book."

It also was revealed the 35-year-old former England captain, who is out of this summer's tournament with a torn leg tendon, will accept a role on the national team's coaching staff.

Beckham has surgery, will miss World Cup

Turku -- British soccer star David Beckham underwent successful surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon on Monday in Finland, medical officials said.

Dr. Sakari Orava confirmed that with the procedure, the midfielder will miss playing for England in this summer's World Cup in South Africa.

Orava said Beckham would likely be sidelined for about six months. It is unclear how quickly he will be able to return to resume play for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer.

The Galaxy was loaning Beckham to AC Milan in a bid to win a spot on England's World Cup team when he was injured late in the second half of Sunday's 1-0 win over Chievo. Beckham received a pass and grabbed at his left ankle after taking an awkward step.

Carson, Sept. 20 -- Goals by David Beckham and Edson Buddle Saturday lifted Los Angeles to a 2-0 Major League Soccer win over Toronto FC.

Beckham scored in the ninth minute and also assisted on Buddle's tally in the 83rd.

Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts needed to make just one save because of tight defense by his teammates.

The Galaxy (10-5-11) gained three critical points in their drive to finish first in the Western Conference standings and are within two points of the first-place Houston Dynamo.

The Reds (9-10-7) took nine shots, but only one on goal.

They are two points out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot with just four games left in the regular season.

Goalkeeper Stefan Frei made six saves.

Beckham coy on post-Galaxy plans

Carson, Calif. -- Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is keeping his playing options open for after the Major League Soccer regular season ends in November.

Beckham, 34, appears intent on playing in Europe to keep sharp heading into next summer's World Cup finals. The former Manchester United player could return to AC Milan in Italy but isn't ruling out going back to England.

"Everyone knows I will be planning to come back to Europe," he said. "I don't know, there are a few options, put it that way."

Beckham also isn't taking a spot in World Cup competition for granted.

Beckham likely to go to Europe in January

Carson, Calif. -- Los Angeles midfielder David Beckham indicated he plans to play in Europe, but said he won't go before he finishes the season with the Galaxy.

"I'm 95-99 percent certain that it will happen. It's important that I concentrate on the season with the Galaxy, and when that's over there will be a decision by myself and the club that I will be going to," Beckham said.

Beckham, 34, indicated he will go to Europe in January. He was told by England's coach, Fabio Capello, he needs to play in European competition in preparation for the World Cup next year.

"Victoria and David have business interests in London and want somewhere more convenient than Hertfordshire," said a source.

They are also scouting for schools for sons Brooklyn (10), Romeo (6) and four-year-old Cruz.

London, June 9 Brazilian playmaker Kaka says it was his former AC Milan team mate David Beckham who persuaded him to sign up for Real Madrid.

Beckham to return to Galaxy next month

Los Angeles, June 1: England international David Beckham will soon be returning to Los Angeles from Italy to rejoin Galaxy.

Beckham played 81 minutes of AC Milan's last game of the Italian season, helping his team earn a 2-0 road win over Fiorentina in Florence.

Beckham returns to Los Angeles in July to help his club, who have won just one game out of 11 matches in Major League Soccer (MLS) this season, reports local media.

"Now I go back to Los Angeles for the end of the season and then we will we see what happens," Beckham was quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Still, I hope to come back soon. My thanks go to everybody."
