Jiminez, Price get All-Star starts

Anaheim, Calif. -- Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez and Tamp Bay's David Price, who lead their respective leagues in wins, were selected starting pitchers for Tuesday's All-Star Game.

Jimenez, a right-hander, is 15-1 with a 2.20 earned run average in 18 starts for the Rockies. No other pitcher has more than 12 wins.

Price, a left-hander, is 12-4 with a 2.42 ERA in 17 starts. He is tied with the New York Yankees' CC Sabathia for the American League lead in victories.

Philadelphia Manager Charlie Manuel, who will lead the National League team, and New York Manager Joe Girardi, who will handle the American League All-Stars, also announced their lineups for Tuesday.

MLB: Tampa Bay 6, Boston 4

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- David Price went seven-plus innings to collect his 12th win and the Tampa Bay Rays swept Boston with a 6-4 victory Wednesday.

Price (12-4) became the first American League pitcher to reach 12 wins, with a 7 2/3-inning effort in which he fanned 10 batters, allowing two runs on eight hits while walking only one.

The Rays used three pitchers in the ninth when the Red Sox scored a pair of runs, but Matt Garza made his first relief appearance since 2007 and got the final two outs to notch the save, giving the Rays a three-game sweep of their American League East rivals.

Tampa Bay, which leads Boston by 2 1/2 games for second place in the division, won for the seventh time in eight games.

MLB: Tampa Bay 10, Atlanta 4

Atlanta -- David Price became the first 10-game winner in the American League Tuesday by leading the Tampa Bay Rays past Atlanta 10-4.

Evan Longoria drove in three runs and Carl Crawford scored three times and drove in a run in the Rays' fifth victory in their last eight games.

Price (10-2) surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits over five innings. He struck out seven, issued three walks, and allowed Atlanta's first run to score on a wild pitch in the first inning.

The Rays had taken a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Longoria's two-run homer with one out was the big blow of the inning.

MLB: Tampa Bay 5, Baltimore 4

St. Petersburgh, Fla. Aug. 18: B.J. Upton had a home run, a triple and two RBI Tuesday to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

Gabe Gross added a two-run homer and Pat Burrell hit a solo home run for the Rays, who have won three straight games.

David Price (6-5) got the win after allowing two runs on seven hits. He has won four of his last six decisions and improved to 6-1 in eight home starts this season.

J.P. Howell got his 13th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Matt Wieters had a two-run homer and Adam Jones and Nolan Reimold each drove in a run for Baltimore, which has lost four in a row.

Jason Berken (2-11) took the loss after giving up five runs and 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings.

MLB: Los Angeles Angels 6, Tampa Bay 0

Anaheim, Calif. Aug. 12: Ervin Santana pitched a complete-game three-hit shutout and Jeff Mathis drove in three runs Monday in the Los Angeles Angels' 6-0 win over Tampa Bay.

Santana (5-6) struck out six and walked two for the Angels, who have topped the Rays in the first two games of a three-game set in Anaheim, Calif.

Mathis had two hits, including a three-run double in the sixth, and Reggie Willits had two RBI and a run scored for the Angels.

MLB: Chicago White Sox 4, Tampa Bay 3

Chicago, July 21: Paul Konerko hit a three-run homer Monday and the Chicago White Sox survived a shaky ninth inning to defeat Tampa Bay 4-3.

Chicago's Gavin Floyd (8-6) struck out seven in as many innings while allowing three hits -- all solo home runs.

Scott Podsednik was 3- for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for the White Sox.

David Price (3-4) gave up four runs on eight hits and is winless in nine career road appearances on the road, including six starts.

Carl Crawford, Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria all homered for the Rays, who suffered just their third loss in their last 10 games.

MLB: Tampa Bay 5, Florida 2

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- David Price and two relievers combined on a four-hitter Sunday to boost the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-2 inter-league win over the Florida Marlins.

The victory completed a three-game sweep.

Price (2-2) gave up an earned run on two hits and five walks in seven innings. He notched four strikeouts.

Joe Nelson, Chad Bradford and closer J.P. Howell finished the victory, with Howell earning his fifth save when Florida threatened in the ninth.

One of two hits by B.J. Upton was a solo homer in the third inning.

Four others had one RBI, while Carl Crawford and Carlos Pena added two hits apiece for the Rays, who have a five-game winning streak.

MLB: Philadelphia 10, Tampa Bay 1

St. Petersburgh, Fla. June 23: Chase Utley's two-run homer and four RBI Tuesday helped power the Philadelphia Phillies' 10-1 inter-league victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jamie Moyer (5-6) gave up one run on five hits in six innings for his 251st career win.

John Mayberry Jr. hit a three-run homer during a six-run first for the Phillies, who improved to a major league-best 24-9 on the road. Ryan Howard scored a run and drove in another as the designated hitter after being held out of the lineup for two days with flu-like symptoms.

David Price (1-2) gave up 10 runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Jason Bartlett extended his hitting streak to 17 games and drove in the lone run for the Rays.
