Indians P Huff hit in head by line drive

New York -- Cleveland Indians pitcher David Huff was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat of the New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez Saturday.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning at Yankee Stadium, Rodriguez blasted a pitch straight back at Huff, who was struck full-on the right side of his head. He immediately collapsed on the mound, lying motionless while Indians teammates an Rodriguez gathered around, motioning for medical attention.

Indians manager Manny Acta and trainers ran to the mound where Huff appeared conscious. After several minutes, a stretcher was brought out, Huff's head was immobilized and he was loaded onto a motorized cart.

As he was being driven off, Huff made a thumbs-up sign.

MLB: Cleveland 3, Minnesota 1

Cleveland -- Cleveland's David Huff held Minnesota to a run and two hits over seven innings Sunday and the Indians beat the Twins 3-1.

Huff (9-7) posted his second straight win over the Twins and Kerry Wood earned his 19th save of the season.

Asdrubal Cabrera doubled in a run and Michael Brantley and Jhonny Peralta each had an RBI single for the Indians, who won twice in a three-game series.

Denard Span drove in a run for Minnesota, which has lost three of its last four contests.

Nick Blackburn (9-10) was the loser, allowing three runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings.

MLB: Cleveland 4, Kansas City 2

Kansas City -- David Huff held the Royals to two runs and seven hits Wednesday in Cleveland's 4-2 win over Kansas City.

Huff (8-7) threw 94 pitches -- 62 of them strikes -- and retired 12 batters on routine fly balls.
Closer Kerry Wood, the last of four pitchers, earned his 16th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Cleveland's Matt LaPorta hit a solo homer, and Shin-Soo Choo drove in a run.
Asdrubal Cabrera had one RBI, while Jamey Carroll had three hits for the
Indians, who won twice in the three-game series.

The winning run scored on a fifth-inning wild pitch by Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar (6-7), the losing pitcher.

MLB: Seattle 9, Cleveland 4

Cleveland, Aug. 21: Josh Wilson and Jose Lopez both homered during a four-run fourth inning Friday and Seattle used a 14-hit attack to roll past Cleveland 9-4.

The Mariners took a 7-1 lead through four frames and easily held on while producing six extra-base hits.

Luke French (3-3) got the win in his fourth start since joining the Mariners in a trade July 31. He made it through six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out six.

Bill Hall helped stake Seattle to a 3-1 lead with an RBI single in the second and a sacrifice fly in the third, after which the Mariners broke the game open in the fourth.

MLB: Minnesota 10, Cleveland 1

Cleveland, Aug. 4: Carlos Gomez hit a three-run homer and Scott Baker pitched seven scoreless innings Tuesday in the Minnesota Twins' 10-1 win over Cleveland.

The Twins had 16 hits. Gomez was 3-for-4 effort and four RBI.

Baker (9-7) allowed just three hits and a walk to win for the seventh time in his last eight decisions.

Jason Kubel homered and six Twins players had multi-hit games.

Jhonny Peralta and Travis Hafner each went 2-for-4 for the Indians, who have lost two of three.

David Huff (5-6) lasted just 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits.

MLB: Seattle 6, Cleveland 2

Cleveland, July 17: Felix Hernandez won his sixth straight decision Friday by limiting Cleveland to five hits and carrying Seattle to a 6-2 victory over the Indians.

Hernandez (10-3) went eight innings, giving up both Cleveland runs and striking out eight. He has gone 10 consecutive starts without a loss dating to May 19.

Since suffering his last setback, Hernandez has allowed only 11 earned runs in 76 innings.

Seattle scored the game's first five runs and got started in the first when Franklin Gutierrez hit a solo homer against his former team. Gutierrez, who has 11 home runs this season, was traded from Cleveland to Seattle prior to the start of the campaign.

MLB: Cleveland 5, Pittsburgh 4

Pittsburgh, June 23: Grady Sizemore returned from the disabled list to crank two hits, including a two-run triple, Tuesday to help Cleveland post a 5-4 win over Pittsburgh.

Jhonny Peralta had a home run and three RBI, and David Huff (3-2) won his third straight decision with eight shutout innings.

Ian Snell (2-8) didn't get out of the third inning, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks in Pittsburgh's fifth straight loss. Adam LaRoche had a solo home run in the inter-league loss, but flew out with the bases loaded to end the game.

LaRoche's homer off Matt Herges in the ninth spoiled Cleveland's shutout.
